The head coach of the team ; Mr Clint Sayo (Phliphine) and Mr Baekwoon Mun (Korean) have a target to shoot more than 1230 point and get a quota for olimpics. Mr Sayo said ;“we have 2 times performance training in each day, we believe that we ll get the quota in Torino , till now the training goes very efficient . We prefer Antalya fort he camp because the weather conditions are same as Italy and the training facility and hospitality is better.
The manager of the Suudi Team Mr.Abdullah Abushal; “we have been in Antalya before for the World cup organizations but first time we make training camp here. Our aim ;the develop archery sport in our country and represent well in olimpics.

Turkish archers eye Worlds for berths in Olympics

All eyes are set on the World Archery Championship in July of next year, which will determine the Turkish team’s quota in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, as Turkey continues to seek its first medal in this sport.

Turks, ambitious and assertive in archery, came close to making it to the podium with fourth place showings in three previous Summer Olympics.

“The World Outdoor Archery Championships will take place next year in July in Torino. We will strive for Olympic quotas there. Our entire schedule is about that. The women’s and men’s national teams continue training at the facilities of Ankara’s Hacettepe University under the supervision of professors from the sports sciences and technologies department,” Turkish Archery Federation President Abdullah Topaloğlu told Sunday’s Zaman.

The national team continues to work hard for the upcoming international competitions and is currently training in Ankara in this year’s fourth training camp. “We keep on working to select the best athletes for the 2011 worlds in Torino. We want to take the best degrees in the Olympics. Making it to the top 16 or eight will be advantageous for our Olympic targets,” the Turkish national team’s coach, Alper Aytaçoğlu, said. Aytaçoğlu further noted that the quotas have not been announced by the International Archery Federation (FITA) but, according to their earlier experiences, the top eight can secure a spot in London 2012 Summer Olympics. Archery is featured in both individual and team categories in the Olympics. “Our squad is a rather young one. We have European champions. We began early to work for the next season. Important days are ahead. The target is 2012 London,” he noted. While recalling the close shots for Olympic medals, Aytaçoğlu added that they are working both psychologically and physically lest they miss a medal this time. Göktuğ Ergin, a Turkish archer who took part in the Summer Olympics, was among the athletes in Ankara, while Natalia Nasaridze, an idol in the field of women’s archery during the 1990s, will join the training camp later, the coach said. Nasaridze had made an Olympic record in the 1996 Olympics; however, she was unable to perform in the finals.
Eighteen-year-old archer Begünhan Elif Ünsal has entered Turkey’s sports agenda with her recent achievements and become a hope for an Olympic medal in London.
The successful archer became a bronze medalist in the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympics Games, won a silver medal in European Indoor Championship in the Croatian city of Porec and took a bronze medal in a European championship in the teams category.
Ünsal started archery eight years ago with her father’s support. “I began earning good degrees as a result of a year of work. Now I must develop my achievements,” the young archer told the Cihan news agency.
“I started archery at 10. My elder sister was an archer. Her coach left the city and then my father became an archery coach. I continued for two years. I got a medal in my second appearance at a national competition,” she said.
Ünsal aims to work more and win an Olympic medal. İstanbul, Antalya to host major archery events Federation head Topaloğlu said Turkey has always been among the top archery countries and that the nation is in top three in terms of organizational skills. To prove Topaloğlu right, İstanbul is set to host the World Cup finals, one of the most prestigious archery events in the world, in September 2011, while the southern city of Antalya is set to host World Archery Championship in 2013.
Topaloğlu further noted that they are happy with the growth of the sport across Turkey.
“Interest in archery is increasing nationwide. There used to be 100 to 150 athletes in national competitions, but this figure has risen to 300 to 350 in each category of the competitions nowadays.”
He also added that they provide equipment to the cities where archery is taking off.

Archery as a Turkish tradition

The sport was practiced in early Turkic states, but the greatest importance was attached to it during Ottoman times. Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the conqueror of İstanbul, concentrated archery activities and the production of bows and arrows in İstanbul’s Okmeydanı (Square of Arrows) district. Subsequent sultans expanded the district by adding additional facilities. Later, a bazaar was opened behind Beyazıt Mosque in İstanbul, where all the manufacturers of archery equipment gathered. Although the sport went into decline during the later periods of the Ottoman Empire and during the early years of the Turkish Republic, numerous attempts have been made to revive the tradition of Turkish archery.

Turkey became the 16th member of the International Archery Federation (FITA) in 1955. After the establishment of a national archery federation in 1961, Turkish archers began to represent the country at the international level. There was a brief interruption in the development of the sport in 1982, when the federation was attached to the Turkish Shooting and Hunting Federation. The Turkish Archery Federation was re-established in 1982, and Uğur Erdener became the head of the federation. Erdener would later manage archery throughout the world when he was elected president of FITA in 2005.

Bear Archery Attack

While designing the 2010 Attack, Bear engineers focused their attention like a laser beam on the needs of bowhunters. Their aim was to create a true hunting bow inspired by real-life hunting situations. All the components, technologies and performance characteristics had one purpose -- to kill. Bear describes their new Attack as "the Perfect Killer."
The Attack is loaded with features, including Max Pre-Load Quad limbs, perimeter weighted E-Cam, Dual Arc Offset String Suppressors, Bear Logo grip, Zero-Tolerance Limb Pockets and pre-stretched Contra-Band HP strings and cables.

Pre-Loaded Power

One of the things that will undoubtedly catch your attention when you first lay eyes on the Attack is the profile of Bear's Max Pre-Load Quad limbs. Even at rest, they reach a markedly past parallel position. At full draw, they are just plain radical! Bear engineered the 12-inch Gordon Composite limbs with an extreme pre-load made possible by a uniform distribution of stress across the limb's structure. Sophisticated computer modeling programs allow engineers to identify and eliminate any potential stress "hot spots" before the limb is ever actually made.

Once the final design was formulated, limbs were precision CNC ground to spec and thoroughly tested. A set of four limbs is chosen for each Attack based on deflection values to ensure uniformity and consistency. At full draw, the limbs move far past parallel while utilizing the inherent stability and performance characteristics of traditional upright limb pockets. Past parallel limb angles distribute the force from release in equal and opposite directions. The opposing movements of the limbs cancel out leftover shot energy, thereby greatly reducing hand shock, bow vibration and audible shot noise.

E-fficiency

Bear's new, perimeter weighted E-Cam was designed to produce maximum efficiency and a super smooth draw. The single cam and idler wheel both ride on sealed, stainless steel ball bearings to reduce friction and increase efficiency. Friction is further reduced with Bear's proven asymmetric cable groove, which has a radius on one side to allow the cable to move in and out freely. Letoff is advertised at 80 percent. A set of modules offers draw lengths from 25-30 inches, in half-inch increments. Pre-drilled holes in the cam are clearly marked for proper placement of the adjustable draw stop. Both cam and idler wheel are CNC machined from aluminum and dark green anodized.

Bonus Features

Several other features play a supporting role in the success of the Attack. First, the pivoting Zero-Tolerance Limb Pockets serve as the connecting point at the critical limb-to-riser interface. The bow's overall alignment and ultimate performance depends on this one component. The pockets pivot as the limb bolt is turned, which maintains proper pocket-to-limb alignment throughout the weight adjustment range. A system that utilizes a pivoting pocket rather than a moving limb is generally considered more consistent and precise; and therefore superior.

Next on the list is the Bear Logo overmold grip, which is made from a proprietary synthetic material. The grip produces a neutral wrist position and adds warmth for your bow hand on cold days afield. Bear's Dual Arc Offset String Suppressors are mounted to the riser and match the curvature of the pre-loaded limbs as they reach out to the string. The arm of the suppressor is offset from the actual suppression module to increase the cushioning effect and reduce string vibration and noise. The effectiveness of the string suppressor accessory was studied with high-speed photography and tweaked to obtain maximum performance.

Impressions

The Bear Attack performed well in testing with much improved shock and vibration characteristics as compared to the Truth II. A slight bump felt in the handle at the shot was extremely short lived and no notable vibration was detected. As you might expect, the shot noise followed suit with hunt worthy output. The grip, while slightly deeper front to back than I normally prefer, was comfortable at full draw. Bear also hit the mark with a smooth draw cycle, as the attached draw force curve affirms. Overall, the Bear Attack is a solid hunting bow with excellent shooting characteristics and performance results.

Holless Wilbur Allen changed the face of archery forever when he decided that he could make a better bow by sawing off part of the limbs of a recurve bow and attaching pulleys to the new ends. In the early 1960s this mechanic decided to try improve the current design of bows by using the pulley’s mechanical advantage to pull more weight than normally possible.
As Holless was experimenting with different ways of using the pulleys, he discovered that by using one with an offset axle (eccentrics), he created one of the biggest advantages of compound bows, let-off. When coupled with a cam shape instead of a round pulley, the draw length, weight and force curve could be changed and improved.
On June 23, 1966 Holless applied for a patent “Archery bow with draw-force multiplying attachments”; in December of 1969 it was granted. Holles joined forces with a current bow manufacturer, Tom Jennings, and the first compound bows began to be manufactured.

The 2009 FITA World Archery Coaching Seminar that took place in Rome on 3-6 November was one of the best ever!

Volunteers, coaches, specialists, athletes, staff – all the main FITARCO human resources joined forces to make the 4th World Archery Coaching Aeminar a success, and they did!

The main goal was to present the reasons behind the success of Italian archery. Good results have been perpetuated over the years in most of the divisions, categories and disciplines of international archery. The 84 participants coming from the five continents enjoyed this seminar and learned a lot!

Britain's archers will be led by American Lloyd Brown at London 2012.
Brown, who helped the United States to Olympic gold in 1996 and bronze in 2000, replaces Peter Suk, who returned to South Korea in September.
"Britain has some outstanding archers, many with the potential to win medals at the London Games," said Brown.
"Nothing will give me greater pleasure than being the coach that helped them do that. I want to use my experience to the benefit of the British squad."
California-based Brown already has experience helping archers to Olympic gold medals on home soil.
He coached Justin Huish to individual gold as part of the US team in Atlanta in 1996, then took his country's men's team to bronze in Sydney four years later.
He has also coached the US team at four World Championships.
"I have extensive international coaching experience and am very proud of the success I have had in these positions," he added.

Brown's predecessor, Suk, served as head coach of the GB squad for four years.
Under Suk, Britain won three World Championship medals in Leipzig in 2007, but returned from the 2008 Beijing Olympics empty-handed.
The British women's team lost out to France for the bronze medal in Beijing, while no individual competitors made it past the last 16.
At the time, British competitor Alan Wills was critical of Suk's methods, though Wills later sought to clarify his remarks.

Korean traditional archery is centuries old but whet the Korean nation started to embrace modern archery Hyung-Tak Kim decided to follow this trail and was one of the first Koreans to study and analyse this type of archery.

It was not long before his shooting skills were imported into coaching were his skills have been appreciated by the Korean archers for around 40 years. All the technical knowledge he has gained over the years has been passed on to archers and coaches alike through the many training courses and seminars he has conducted. This knowledge has helped Korea to excel in the sport of archery and be one of the major players in the Recurve division. Hyung-Tak Kim’s wealth of knowledge is now being funnelled through archery the training centre he is currently running in Goesan-gun in central Korea.When the Korean archery team first took part in the Olympic Games, he was head coach for the Women’s National team and was delighted when they won the gold medal. He showed excellent performance as a head coach of the Korean National Women’s archery team, but was enticed away to coach the Taiwan National Archery Team in 1989. He worked for the Taiwan National Archery Federation from 1989 to 1997 as a head coach; during this time he raised their profile to be one of the world’s top teams. Currently, Hyung-Tak Kim is coaching Korean coaches through many seminars he is conducting in his position as research director of Korean Archery Association.

He opened his training centre in 2004, and over 500 archers from around 30 countries have been trained by him, many rewarding him by producing good results at World Cup Tournaments, World Championships, Olympic Games, and European Championships.

Now he has published his archery book which focuses on how to learn and coach archery with ease, it brings to life his long experience and advanced skills of archery coaching. Each person can discover his teaching techniques from the basics to top levels through this tool where he is presenting problems and solutions in a precise and practical form.

This book, called “Kim, Hyung-Tak Archery”, will provide guidance for coaches and archers alike who want to improve their performance as he is providing accurate and basic technology of learning and step by step coaching methods.

Bu sene Almanya'da 5-6 Eylül'de yapılan EOCHA atlı okçuluk avrupamüsabakalarına katıldım, değerlendirmesi aşağıdadır (http://www.eocha.org/).

60 kadar kişi katıldı, derece yok ama bol tecrübeyle geri döndüm.Aslında 6 kişi gidecektik, Sivas ekibi ile birlikte, bir türlü sponsorparası alamadığımızdan anca ben gidebildim, o da tüm mali kaynaklarımızorlayarak. Türkiye geleneksel spor dalları federasyonunun 'okçulukgeleneksel spor dallarımıza dahil değil' demesi bizi çıldırttı, diğersponsorlardan da olumsuz cevap geldi. Sonuçta arkadaşlarım olmadangideyim mi gitmeyeyim mi diye düşündüm ama Türk (atlı) okçuluğunudünyaya tanıtma hedefimizde küçük de olsa bizi bir adım ilerigötüreceğini düşündüm. Ayrıyetten bu müsabaka için uzun zamandırhazırlanıyordum.

Perşembe 8.25 uçağı ile İstanbul'dan Frankfurt'a gittim, sonrauzun tren yolculuğu ile Bamberg'e geldim, oradan organizatörler benialdı yine bir yarım saat araba seyahati ile 15.30 gibi müsabakayerindeydim. Gelen takımlarla tanıştım ve ufak tefek hazırlıklardayardım ettim. Akşama takımlar kendilerini sunumlarla tanıttılar. Atlıokçulukta başı çeken Kore'dir, daha birkaç hafta önce Kore'de yapılandünya atlı okçuluk festivali 83.000 $'a mal olmuş ve tüm bu parayıbirsürü sponsorlar üstlenmiş. En büyük destekçileri ve sponsorları(Güney) Kore devleti. Atlı okçuluğu kültürlerinin önemli bir parçasıve birçok Kore dövüş sanatları arasında görüyorlar. UNESCO ilegörüşüyorlar dünya çapında bunu daha farklı boyutlara çekmek için!Ayrıca Sokcho'daki atlı okçuluk tesislerini büyütüyorlar yeni yerlerinşa ediyorlar. Atlı okçu topluluğu olmayan Almanya'da 100'den fazlaaktif atlı okçu var. Müsabakalarda Macar ve Kore disiplinlerindenbıkmışlar ve kabak oyunu gibi yeni, seyircileri daha çok etkileyecekşeyler arayışındalar. Organizatörlerle EOCHA müsabakasında kabak oyunuhakkında baya konuştum. Örn. yarışmacılara iki gruba ayırıp direğeiçinde kuş bulunan kafes dikip yarıştırma fikri çok hoşlarınagitti.Tabi kafesin altı ok geçirmez olup bir mekanizma olabilir. Sonraben sunumumu yaptım bol resim ve kaynak gösterdim, Göktürk, Selçukluve Osmanlı ve bugün Türkiye'de atlı okçuluğumuzu anlattım. Atlıokçuluk disiplinleri, Osmanlı ve Selçuklu'da atlı okçu çeşitlerinianlattım. Bu arada bol bol Sivas cündilerinden ve hünerlerindenbahsettim ve resimler gösterdim. Sunum öyle beğenildi ki o ana kadarbana karşı biraz soğuk davranan Kore'liler tercüman ile sunumu çokbeğendiklerini defalarca dile getirdiler. Diğer ekiplerden de sonradanyanıma geldiler ve tebrik ettiler. Milletin ağzı açık kaldı, hiçbirmilletin bu kadar önemli bir atlı okçuluk tarihi yok. Böyle birgeçmişe göre başı çeken aslında Kore değil biz olmalıydık...

Cuma günü sabahtan pansiyonda kahvaltıda tesadüfen Kore ekibiylekarşılaştım, birdaha Türk atlı okçuluğuna ve gördükleri resimlerehayran kaldıklarını söylediler. Kore dövüş sanatı olan Tekvando'da 2dan'ımın olduğunu ve Avrupa'da birsürü ülkede dövüştüğümü söyleyincezati derin saygılarını uyandırdım ve son buzlarda eridi. Baya oturdukve konuştuk bir sürü soruları vardı, odadan Ünsal Yücel kitabımıgetirdim ve resimlerin üstünden geçtik. Bilhassa kabak oyununusevdiler ve bir resimde donup kaldılar; atın eğerine ip ile bir topbağlayıp arkaya topa ok atan süvari resmi. Bunun ikili varyasonunu'Mogu' olarak kendileri oynuyorlar çünkü. Kaynağında 'Murakka'yazıyordu ancak daha fazla bilgi, senesi ve Osmanlı mı yoksa Memlük müyazmıyordu. Bunu acaba araştırabilir miyiz?Kitabı benden satın almak istediler ben tabiiki onlara hediye ettim.Kitabı UNESCO ile görüşmelerinde kullanacaklarını söylediler.

Sonra müsabaka yerinde atları seçtik ve bir iki prova dörtnallarıyaptık, amaç güvenlik nedeniyle organizatörlerin herkesin dizginleribırakarak dörtnala gitmesinden emin olması. Bazı insanlar kendiatlarını getirmiş ama birçoğu da kiraladı, bir ata 3-4 binicidüşüyordu. İşte burada işin püf noktaları başlıyor; geçen sene iyiolan binicilere at seçiminde öncelik verdiler ve hızlı atlar öncedenkapıldı. Öğleden sonra bir yağmur indirdi ve tüm aktiviteleridurdurdu. Ben Fransız ekibiyle Kafe'de oturdum, sunumun birdahaüstünden geçmemi istediler. Fransızca olarak birdaha anlattım ve Türkokçuluğu hakkında da uzun uzun konuştuk. Bu arada anneannemin dediği'bir lisan bir insan' çok doğru çıktı; Türk (atlı) okçuluğumuzuFransızlara, Belçikalılara, İsviçrelilere Fransızca olarak anlattım,Almanlara, bazı Macar ve Polonyalılara Almanca anlattım, vediğerlerine İngilizce olarak tanıttım. Birçoğunun İngilizcesi kötüveya hiç yoktu, farklı dillerle onlara ulaşabilmemden dolayıavantajlıydım. Ayrıyetten müsabaka boyunca anonsları bile sadeceAlmanca yaptılar.

Akşama çadırda beraber yemek yendi hediyeler verildi ama öyle biryağmur yağdı ve fırtına koptu ki çadırı zor tuttuk. Hediyelerimiz deilgi çekti, gül suyundan Türk kahvesine, üstünde çevgan oynayancündili resimli kalem kutuları ve çok güzel işlemeli Alaaddin'insihirli lambası gibi eşyalardan lokuma kadar çeşit çeşit hediyelerdağıttım. Hediyelerin temininde yardımcı olduğunuz için çok teşekkürederim. Cumartesi günü resmi açılış oldu, tüm ekipler tarihi atlı okçukıyafetleriyle ve bayraklarıyla geçiş yaptılar, sonra birde dörtnaladalgalanan bayrakla teker teker geçiş yapıldı. İlk defa atlı okçulukmüsabakasında Türk bayrağı dalgalandı, duygulandım. İnsanlarbayrağımıza özel ilgi gösterdiler ve özel alkış ettiler.

Cumartesigünü Kore disiplinleri yapıldı ve ilk olarak 90 metrede tek atışyapıldı, herkes iki geçiş yaptı. Oku tirkeşten çekmek gerekiyordu. 90metrenin başında ve sonunda aletlerle zamanı ölçüyorlardı, 84cm x84cmhedeflere atış yapılıyor 5 bölge var, en yüksek puan getiren hedefinortasına olan küçük kavun büyüklüğünde olan kaplan resmiydi (5 puan).90 metreyi 12 saniyede geçmek gerekiyor, altında olursa saniyen kadarartı puan alıyorsun, üstünde olursan saniyen kadar eksi puan. Örn.hedefi vuruyorsun 3 puan alıyorsun ve 9,4 saniyede geçiyorsun,(12-9,4=2,6) yani 3+2,6=5,6 puan alıyorsun. Hızlı atlar müthişavantajda, en hızlı atları Korelilere verdiklerinden örn. 6,5 saniyedegeçiyor kaplanı vuruyor ve 5,5+5= 10,5 puan alıyor.

Sonra ikili atışlar yapıldı, bir öne doğru biri arkaya atış. Yinezamana puan veriliyor ve hızlı atlar avantajda . Bu iki disiplinde defena değildim 2 kaplan vurdum insanlar baya alkışladı ama atım enyavaş atlardandı, zaman bonusu çok az aldım.Sonra 150 metreye 5 hedef konuldu, 30 metre arayla. Burada 16saniyenin altında olmak gerekiyordu. Oku başlarken hazırgezleyebileceğimi bilmiyordum ilk geçişte. Hızlı atlılar şu stratejiyiizledi: mümkün olduğu kadar hızlı gidip sadece 1,3 ve 5inci hedefe okatıp (hatta bazen sadece üçüncü hedefe attılar) hedef puanından ziyadeiyi bir zaman bonusu kazanmaktı.

Bu müsabakadan sonra Mogu oynanacaktı ancak yine hava planıdeğiştirdi, felaket sağanak yağmur yağdı, atların üstünde yağmurdayarım saat kadar bekledik geçer de Mogu oynarız diye ama boşa. Buarada hava da buz gibiydi 10-12 derece civarı, nefeslerimiz buharolarak gözüküyordu. Sabah güneşe aldanarak ince giyinmiştim. Bir moğolekibi geleneksel kıyafetleri ve müzik aletleri ile güzel moğolparçaları çaldılar, genizden şarkılar söylediler, bayan şarkıcınınsesi en kaba erkek sesinden daha derindi.. Donuma kadar ıslakeşyalarla bunu titreye titreye seyrettim bi yarım saat kadarkaçırmamak için sonra hemen pansiyona gidip yarım saat sıcak bir duşaldım.

Pazar günü Macar disiplini vardı, 90 metreyi 16 saniyede geçeceksin ve90cm hedefe önden, yandan ve arkadan atış yapacaksın. Hedef ama 90metrenin tam ortasında yani ilk atarken 45 metre civarı oluyor. Öndenatışta puanlar 2,3,4 ortada 1,2,3, arkaya 3,4,5 puan. Bu disiplindeatabildiğin kadar ok atabilirdin ve okları elinde tutmak serbest. Yinezaman bonusu var ancak 16 saniyeyi geçersen ne olursa olsun 0 puanalıyorsun. Bu defa 2 geçiş değil herkes 6 geçiş yaptı. Hızlı atıolanlar yine aynı stratejiyi yaptı, örn. sadece ortadan attılar 2 puanalıp 6,5 saniyede geçip 9,5 puan da zaman bonusu aldılar toplam 11,5puan (hiç vuramazsan zaman bonusu da olmuyor). Bir de Macarstratejisinde atanlar vardı bunlar da 12 saniye civarı bilerek yavaşgidip 6 ok atabiliyorlardı, okları yay eline önceden özel bir şekilde yerleştiriyorlar.

Vakit olmadığından Moguyu en hızlı atlılar oynadı. Biri çok hızlıdörtnala gitti, 5metre ipi çekti ucunda 60 cm bir top, diğer iki atlıda blunt uçları ile topa biraz yaklaşıp vurmaya çalıştı.

Sonuçta dereceye giremedim, ama daha iyi puan alabilmek için birsürütecrübem oldu, bunları yaparız yapmayız o ayrı konu.Yarışmacıların kullandıkları küçük 'kolaylıklar'

1. At seçimi, en iyisi kendi atın, alıştığın at, hızlı at genelde dahaiyi. Zaman puanları kazanıyorsunuz. Ve at ne kadar hızlı koşarsa okadar az sallanır.

3. Arkalık kullanmıyorlar ok nereye gezlenirse öyle atıyorlar. Kirişe7-8 cm bir muşamba sarıp yapıştırmışlar, El için deri dekullanmıyorlar bi işaret parmaklarını bant ile sarıyorlar muşambasızyere denk geldiği için. Yaylar zati çok düşük libreli.

4. Okları hazır yay elinde tutuyorlar, Koreli arkadaşlar bile buMacar/Kassai stilini kullanıyorlar. Koreli'nin sırası gelmeden öncekonuştuk, doğru olmadığını söyledi, aslında o da okları kiriş elindetuttuğunu ama bu 'spor' için daha hızlı olduğundan yay elindenbeslediğini anlattı ve bana gösterdi. Ben yine de Türk okçuluğumuzutanıtmak açısından kiriş elimden besledim, 90 metrede en fazla 3 okatabildim. İyi de oldu, onlar için bu 'yeni' stil ilgi çekici, dahaşimdi katılımcılardan biriyle yazıştım, bu stili çok beğendiğini vedaha üstün olduğunu söyledi, ve hemende forumlarına yazmış. Birazgezlerlede oynayıp daha hızlı olmak lazım.. Avrupa şampiyonu MacarChristoph Nemethy yay elinde okları tutarak Kassai stili ile 12 saniyegibi bir zamanda 6 ok atıyor.

5. Aynı setup'ta antrenman; yarışmacıların çoğu hergün EOCHAstandartlarındaki mesafelere hedeflere yani aynı parkurda ve setup'taantrenman ediyor. Resim galerisinde hem Kore hem Macar disiplini içinstandartları göreceksiniz. Yani tüm atışlarda oku ne kadar havayadikeceklerini biliyorlar. Atın parkuru zamanında bitirmesi içinhızlarını biliyorlar. Bilhassa Macar stilinde çok farkediyor. 45metrede oku ne kadar havaya dikecesin ve hedefin ne kadar solunaatacaksın bunu aynı setup'da hergün antrenman etmek lazım. Bu aradaatlı atışlarda sola doğru atışta hızınıza bağlı ve atış açısına göreok sağa sapar. Bundan dolayı atın hızı, atış açısı ve mesafesi önemlifaktörler.

6. Yayların çekiş gücü genelde 28-40 libre arası, küçük parmakla bileçekilebiliyor, ben 60 libre kullandım sorun olmadı.

7. Eyer; ilk günü İngiliz eyeriyle bindim, ikinci günü macar eyeriyle.Macar eyeri müzedeki türk eyerlerine göre daha dar, neredeyse önden vearkadan bastırıyor. Oturarak çok zor biniliyor ama zaten ayakta durmakiçinmiş, ayakta bindim ben de, ve rahatlığı o zaman hissettim. Öndenve arkadan destek oluyor. Bir iki ok atmadan kabak atışı yapar gibiayağa kalkıp atın boynuna eğilip yayı havaya diktim dörtnalda ve bueyerin bu iş için çok uygun olduğunu farkettim, yalnız sert tahtayerleri biraz yumuşak birşeyle kaplasalarmış daha rahat olacakmış.

8. Başparmak atanlar zihgir kullanmıyor, 30 libre yayda gerekmiyor,zihgir kayması vs de olmuyor hiç uğraşmıyorlar.

Sonuçta Türk kültürünü, Türk (atlı) okçuluğunu tanıttık, millet bunuuzun zamandan beri bekliyormuş. Bazılarına daha detaylı anlattım,bazılarına daha genelden başlayıp Türklerin Arap olmadığını, Arapçadeğil Asya dili konuştuğunu ve Orta Asya'dan yani atlı okçuluğun doğuşyerinden geldiğini anlatmak zorunda kaldım. İtalyanların gönlünüaldım, Türk medyasındaki bir aralar İtalyan düşmanlığından kalan küçükbir yaraları varmış.Vs vs vs.
Hepsini İstanbul'a ve Sivas'a davet ettim.Kalabalık gidebilseydik çok güzel olacaktı..

Turkey’s world-class archers aim at medals in Summer Olympic Games

Archery is one of the oldest sports in the world. You can see mythological figures such as Apollo or Eros carrying bows and arrows. If we must stay within the borders of Turkish history, we can see that the sport was practiced in early Turkish states, but the greatest importance was attached to it during Ottoman times.

Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the conqueror of İstanbul, concentrated archery activities and the production of bows and arrows in İstanbul's Okmeydanı (Square of Arrows) district. Subsequent sultans expanded the district by adding additional facilities. Later, a bazaar was opened behind Beyazıt Mosque in İstanbul where all the manufacturers of archery equipment gathered. Although the sport went into decline during the later periods of the Ottoman Empire and during the early years of the Turkish Republic, numerous attempts have been made to revive the tradition of Turkish archery.
Turkey became the 16th member of the International Archery Federation (FITA) in 1955. After the establishment of a national archery federation in 1961, Turkish archers began to represent the country at an international level. There was an interruption in the development of the sport in 1982, when the federation was attached to the Turkish Shooting and Hunting Federation. The Turkish Archery Federation was re-established in 1982, and Uğur Erdener became the head of the federation. Erdener would later manage archery throughout the world when he was elected president of FITA in 2005.

After being honored by Erdener's election as the new president of FITA, Turkish archery has turned its focus to earning medals in the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London. “We, as the Turkish Archery Federation, aim to be more successful. We are distinguished among other archery federations in that our former president is now the president of FITA. We are very proud of this. Now, we want to win medals at the Olympic games. Our best Olympic score was fourth place in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. We were very close to winning a medal, but we did not,” Turkish Archery Federation President Abdullah Topaloğlu, who has a 32-year history in the sports world in Turkey and has served in numerous posts of various federations, told Sunday's Zaman.

‘Archery is an expensive sport'

Even though archery has a significant place in Turkish history, there are not many archers in the country today -- there are around 7,000 registered archers in the federation -- because the sport is expensive, said Topaloğlu, noting that they are working to develop archery in the country. “We have around 270 trainers who were brought up in the federation's courses. But we cannot use them efficiently. Only 70 or 80 of them are actively working,” he said. Apart from financial obstacles, Turkey also suffers from a lack of archery facilities. Because the sport has few practitioners, those who do practice archery do not have many facilities to choose from. “We have a facility in Antalya, and archers can practice there for the entire day. We plan to establish such facilities in Ankara and İzmir, too. We work in cooperation with the metropolitan municipalities of some provinces where there is the potential for practicing archery. Other federations cooperate with the Education Ministry, but we cannot spread the sport to all schools since TL 1,000 to 1,500 is needed for each student of archery. For such reasons, we approach the development and expansion of the sport regionally in Turkey,” Topaloğlu elaborated.

The federation's president further said the interest of Turkish people in archery is gradually rising due to the international archery competitions held in Turkey, especially after the TV broadcasts of the World Archery Cup, which took place earlier this month in the southern province of Antalya. “We received a lot of calls asking for information about the courses offered by the federation. We are trying to meet the demand. Also, around 350 children applied to the Juniors Cup -- which started yesterday and ends today. We are witnessing such a large number of applications for an archery competition for the first time. It is promising. They are the future archers,” Topaloğlu said.

Turkish archer survives after arrow enters his head

An interesting incident occurred in Turkey in 2004. Archery enthusiast Hakan Budak accidently shot his friend, Cem Balcı, in the head while they were practicing the sport as a hobby. Balcı underwent an operation and was unconscious for 11 days, but he survived. Stating that he was at fault for the accident, Balcı told the Anatolia news agency: “Such an accident has occurred three times in the world so far. If I had obeyed the rules, the arrow would not have struck my head.” He also stressed that the sport is safe and that no one should be afraid to practice it.

Topaloğlu agrees with Balcı about the safety of the sport. “Those who open an archery facility must have a trainer's certificate, and safety precautions must be taken in the field. Such an accident had never happened before in Turkey. It is not about the nature of the sport, which is normally harmless. The accident occurred solely due to a personal mistake,” he explained.

Compound Bows - 43 Years in the Making

A compound bow is a bow of the modern age that uses a levering system usually consisting of cables and pulleys to bend the limbs. The limbs of a compound bow are much stiffer than that of the recurve bow or long bow. This quality or state of stiffness makes the compound bow much more energy efficient than other conventional bows; such as design have limbs that are too stiff to be drawn, hence, has the strings attached to a pulley system or also known as cams, of which one or both have one or more cables attached to the other end. This levering system enables the archer to hold the bow fully drawn and take more time to aim.

The compound bow is much more superior compared to other bows because it isn’t affected by temperature and humidity changes and its more accurate, faster, and has longer range. The first compound bow was developed in 1966 by Holless Wilbur Allen in Missouri and given a US patent in 1969.

The compound bows’ riser is usually made of aluminum or magnesium of the aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum alloy. It is the central mount for other components such as the limbs, sight, stabilizers, and quivers. Limbs are made out of composite materials and are able to withstand high tensile and compressive forces. All the energy is stored on the limbs, and not on the cables and pulleys. The cam or wheel is usually at the end of each limb. Its shape varies between different bow designs, and fall under four most commonly used types: Single Cam, Hybrid Cam, DualCam, and Binary Cam. The less common designs are the Quad Cam and Hinged.

Compound bow strings and cables are made of high-modulus polyethylene that have great tensile strength, minimal stretchability to make the bow transfer its energy to the arrow in a more efficient and durable way. Earlier models used cables made out of plastic coated steel. The pulley system has some rubber-covered blocks that act as draw-stops that can be adjusted to suit the archer’s optimum draw-length. This provides a consistent anchor point and consistent amount of drawn force to make consistent and accurate shots.

Cams or pulleys have two designs that have direct control of the arrow’s acceleration. The “soft cam” will accelerate the arrow more gently compared to the “hard cam”. Soft cams are best suited for novice archers, whereas the advanced archers may use the hard cam type for speed. Bows can have the integration of both cams for more flexible shots. Other modifications in the compound bow are the use of mechanical release aids, magnifying sights, stabilizers, and dampers to allow the archer to shoot more accurately.

Waco To Host Archery In The Schools Tournament Feb. 27

AUSTIN, Texas - The 4th Annual Texas-National Archery in the Schools Program (TASP) Tournament will take place Feb. 27 at the Waco Convention Center. Rising attendance at this yearly culminating event for participating Texas schools charts the program’s increasing popularity.

The first TASP tournament in Texas took place in February 2006, with 126 students representing 13 schools. The third annual championship last March drew 476 students, and attendance at this year’s tournament is expected to approach 700 students, teachers and parents.

Changing lives one arrow at a time

Since the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) came to Texas in September of 2004, organizers have trained more than 900 archery instructors at all three levels—Instructor, Trainer, and Specialist—including more than 400 classroom educators at 200 plus schools across Texas.

Since the national program’s inception in Kentucky seven years ago, it is now established in 46 states and four other countries. On May 8-9, 2009 the 8th annual national tournament will be held in Louisville, Kentucky. The 2008 NASP national tournament was the largest archery event in the history of North America, with 2,865 participants.Last school-year across the nation, 866,000 school children in grades 4-12 received archery instruction from their teachers and an estimated 1 million will participate this year. This makes NASP the most successful youth archery program in history. The program expects to be operating in every U.S. state by the end of 2009.

NASP lessons are taught by physical education teachers with a focus on international-style target archery. The program teaches a lifetime skill in a controlled, safe environment. Universal fit NASP equipment is useable by all 4th – 12th grade children and teachers, and is durable, affordable and identical in appearance and function. In order to meet and enhance student learning and accountability standards, many schools integrate archery into core content areas such as math, science, and history.

NASP is intended for all students regardless of athletic ability or experience. Accommodations are routinely made for physically challenged students.

“Although we just began the NASP this year, it has had a tremendous impact on our school district,” said Brian Gray, school superintendent with Union Grove ISD based in Gladewater in northeast Texas. “The participation levels are through the roof and the program is allowing our staff to teach kids about how to be successful in life, while promoting a lifelong activity.”

Olympics Champions Tied the Knot
Lausanne – 2 February 2009

Korean archers PARK Sung-Hyun, 25-year old, and PARK Kyung-Mo, 33, united Olympic destiny. They were blessed in the presence of many guests on 6 December 2008.

PARK Sung-Hyun won two gold medals (individual and team) at the 2004 Athens Games. She repeated as an Olympic champion in the women's team final in Beijing last year, leading her country to a sixth straight Olympic title. She also won individual silver in Beijing.

PARK Kyung-Mo, who also won team gold in 2004, had similar success as her fiancée four years later. In Beijing, he helped the men's team clinch the Olympic title for the third straight time and won the individual silver medal.

The newly-weds started dating two years ago while preparing for the Olympics but kept their relationship secret to avoid affecting the national team. The two are the first gold medallists in the country's history to marry each other.

We wish PARK Sung-Hyun and PARK Kyung-Mo a wonderful and happy life together!

Coroner: Archery Death Accidental

The archery death of a Deer Park Middle School student was unintentional, the Stevens County coroner said Sunday.

Alex Niskanen died Thanksgiving afternoon, after being shot with a hunting arrow while visiting friends south of Chewelah.
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the boy who released the arrow. County Coroner Patti Hancock said he was older than the victim.

"The two boys were outside playing," Hancock said. "They didn’t’ have a lot of power on the bow, but with a broadhead arrow, it doesn’t take much."

The arrow hit no bone, but severed the axillary artery in the 12-year-old boy’s left shoulder. He bled to death, Hancock said.
It’s not clear whether the two had been hunting. Whitetail deer currently are legal game for archers in the Chewelah area.
A man who answered the phone at the Niskanen residence in Deer Park said the family did not want to comment about the death.

Arrowheads used for hunting typically are made three or four razor-sharp blades designed to cause bleeding. By contrast, the heads on target arrows are cone-shaped, like a pencil point.
Deer Park elementary, middle and high schools are among 30 schools statewide that participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program. And while the training is designed for the controlled setting of a target range, students hear "over and over again" that bows can be dangerous, said Dave Mack, state program coordinator.
At least 100 students from Deer Park Middle School participate, Mack said. It’s not clear whether Alex Niskanen was part of that program.

A Deer Park seventh-grader with the same last name, but a different first name, placed fourth in a state championship held in March in East Wenatchee. The relationship between the two Niskanen boys was not clear Sunday.

Surprise City Council backs off of city bow-and-arrow ban

The Surprise City Council on Thursday exempted bows and arrows from a list of weapons banned inside city limits.
The decision came after the council heard passionate pleas from archers, including an athlete who competed in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.
On Sept. 11, the council voted unanimously on a first reading to add bows and arrows, crossbows and blowguns to the list.
Weaponson the list include firearms, BB and pellet guns, dart guns and slingshots.
But Thursday, the council agreed 6-0 to exclude bows and arrows. Mayor Lyn Truitt was absent.
City officials will work with archers to reach a compromise that won't prohibit archery but will still increase public safety.
Meanwhile, banning crossbows and blowguns requires one more reading, likely to take place at the council's first meeting in October meeting.
The Surprise Police Department sought the ban because of safety concerns.
Surprise Police Chief Daniel Hughes said he is open to discussion about the ban.
Hughes said the ban was never intended to hinder sportsmen, but rather inexperienced or irresponsible shooters that pose a threat to themselves or their neighbors.
"It's always been about public safety," Hughes said.
He said the city ordinance's language concerning the discharge of weapons is too vague. Officers responding to situations involving bows and arrows are sometimes unsure how to respond because they are not explicitly listed in a weapons ban, Hughes said.
The ban amendment appeared on its way to passage Thursday until several archers spoke out at the City Council meeting, expressing alternative views.
Surprise resident Eric Bennett, 34, is an avid archer and competed this month in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. Bennett said a ban would prohibit him from practicing for future tournaments, as well as his mission to teach youth.
"Archery is an Olympic sport that allows athletes, young and old, an opportunity to compete and be active," he said.
Kari Granville, a board member of the Arizona State Archery Association, told Council members they could write a policy to deter misuse but at the same time foster archery as a sport. Council appeared receptive to the idea.
Pat Crouch, a field supervisor with Arizona Game and Fish, also pleaded with Council to wait on a ban. Crouch was fearful a broad ban would impact his department's wildlife management, including hunters' abilities to use the rural areas of Surprise.
Before the meeting, Councilman John Longabaugh favored banning bows and arrows, but he changed his mind after hearing their remarks.
"The archery community made a very good case," he said.

İstanbul’s athletic heritage

Before Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's political and social reforms and the rise of amateur sports in Turkey, athletics in İstanbul went hand-in-hand with military training.
Archery, wrestling and equestrian games, not to mention gladiator contests, sharpened skills required for battle. Covering two millennia, İstanbul's sports history is closely linked not only with the arts of war but also with politics and the choices rulers make about urban design.
Before the official adoption of Christianity, gladiator contests attracted crowds of spectators both in Byzantium and throughout the Roman Empire. In A.D. 326, Constantine banned gladiator contests, which usually resulted in the death of one of the combatants, and chariot races became the most popular spectator sport for Constantinople's elite and masses alike. Other sports allowed by the church included boxing, wrestling and track and field (running, jumping and disc throwing). Equestrian sports like polo, imported from Persia, and European-style chivalric jousting were also popular in Byzantine times, as was hunting.
Situated between the Hagia Sophia and the palace, the Hippodrome was the place where the emperor and the masses converged for sporting events and other public ceremonies. It measured 117 x 440 meters and is thought to have held 100,000 people. Construction of the Hippodrome, modeled on the Circus Maximus in Rome, began in A.D. 196, during the reign of Septimus Severus, and was completed during the reign of Constantine I (324-337). In 1261, when the emperor moved to the Blachernae Palace (in present-day Ayvansaray), most sporting activities moved as well, leaving the Hippodrome with only jousting and horse racing.
In 1609 the remains of the Hippodrome were cleared to make room for the Sultanahmet Mosque and all that remains today are three monuments, including the Egyptian obelisk, which adorned the spina in the middle of the race course.
The Ottomans referred to the Hippodrome as "The Horse Field" (At Meydanı) and used it for horse races and jereed (cirit) contests. Jereed is an ancient Turkic sport with origins in Central Asia. Individuals from opposing teams pursue one another in turns, the pursuer throwing a blunt javelin at his opponent. The fact that the game occasionally resulted in death may have influenced Mahmut II's decision to ban the game in 1826, but it continued to be popular in the provinces.
The main sporting facility in Ottoman İstanbul was Okmeydanı, which covered nearly 300 acres on the far side of the Golden Horn. Fatih Sultan Mehmet (1451-1481) designated this land as the city's "archery field" soon after the conquest. Beyazıt II (1481-1512) established a training facility there, Okçular Tekkesi (the archers' "lodge"), where talented archers and their coaches were fed and trained. Coaches and the captain (şeyh) of the archers lived at the lodge. To become a licensed member of this elite society, a bowman had to shoot an arrow at least 594 meters. Wrestling, running and equestrian games like jereed and polo also took place at Okmeydanı.
For 500 years, until the founding of the republic, Okmeydanı was strictly protected. Gecekondus began appearing in the 1950s and Okmeydanı has now become a densely populated neighborhood cut by major highways. It is a difficult place to walk, run or ride a bike and shooting arrows would probably result in police arrest. However, the İstanbul Ansiklopedisi indicates that 55 of an original 132 ok abidesi (stone pillars set up as monuments to the achievements of champion archers) can still be found in various parts of the neighborhood.
While archery training and contests were centered at Okmeydanı, oil wrestlers competed on a number of fields in and around the city. In addition to Okmeydanı, there were wrestling fields near the Theodosian Walls, next to the Süleymaniye Camii, in Kadırga and in Kağıthane. Contests between oil wrestlers also took place at the Topkapı Palace and, in the 19th century, at the Ayazağa summer palace in Maslak.
Oil wrestlers trained in İstanbul's wrestling lodges (pehlivan tekkeleri), of which there were several. The most famous of these, the Demir tekkeleri, were founded during the reign of Fatih Mehmet in the 15th century. In the 19th century the fates of wrestlers began to rise and fall according to the tastes and policies of successive rulers. In 1826, wrestling lodges were closed along with the Bektâşi lodges when Mahmut II disbanded the Janissaries. Mahmut II, however, continued to support some wrestlers and held matches at the palace.
Abdülaziz (1861-1876) included the best wrestlers in his entourage and had promising young athletes sent to the capital for training at a facility in İhlamur. Once Abdülaziz was removed from power, his wrestlers were sent away, some finding opportunities in villages like Maltepe, Beykoz and Dudullu and others traveling farther to earn their keep.
Wrestlers and wrestling returned to İstanbul after Abdülhamit II (1876-1909) was dethroned, and in 1911, a tent was set up in the Talimhane Square in Taksim for wrestling matches that continued throughout the month of Ramadan. Similarly, after declining in prestige and popularity due to the introduction of firearms, archery did not reappear until Atatürk reintroduced the sport in 1937.
Throughout history, sports have been linked with military training. Even today many Turkish men associate running, for example, with their military service. While private fitness centers and voluntary sports associations are on the rise in İstanbul, the city's sports culture still depends heavily on local and national politics, and inadequate urban planning restricts its development.

The New York Times reports today that U.S. Olympic archery coach Kisik Lee has been pressuring archery team members to join his evangelical Christian faith.
This advocacy for a religious viewpoint goes against everything that America represents.
The Times reports that Lee’s advocacy has raised concerns in the United States Olympic Committee, and some in the elite archery community feel uncomfortable with his proselytizing.
The mother of a teenage archer who lived at the center said she worried that complaining about it might jeopardize her daughter’s future in the sport.
Coach Lee had the audacity to say that coaching was more of a challenge for him when members of the team did not share his Christian beliefs.
“I don’t want to have any favorites,” he said.
“I would love to be fair for everyone. But sooner or later, if they can see through me God, that’s what I want to try to do. I’m not God, and I can’t drive them to God, but I can pray for them.”
It is plain wrong and plainly un-American to foist one’s viewpoints on another.
Equally distressing, it is simply unethical for any person in a role of authority, such as a coach, to proselytize to young people who are in his charge.
The disreputable actions of Coach Lee in forcing his religion on the Olympic athletes exhibits not only an unethical misuse of his position, but a direct link to cult-like activities spelled out by world renowned UC-Berkeley expert on Mind Control, Dr. Margaret Thaler Singer.
The U.S. Olympic Committee must take action now to stop the unacceptable and un-American behavior of its archery coach.

But on Monday, he encountered an unexpected hurdle in his way — a Tulare city parks ordinance that police believe may forbid him from practicing at home — with the Paralympics about two weeks away.
Fabry, who lost his right arm and leg in a motorcycle accident in 1988, picked up archery 10 years ago. For the past eight years he has practiced in the driveway of his central Tulare home, sometimes venturing across the street to increase distance.
So when a Tulare police officer told him Monday morning he couldn't practice in his driveway or from across the street directly into his driveway, he and his family were surprised.
"[The officer] said I need to stop shooting because it's against city ordinance and if I continue I could be arrested," said Fabry, who added that intrigued officers even have stopped to watch him practice in the past. "For this to happen is just ridiculous."
He holds numerous titles, both as a Paralympic archer and in the regular archery circuit. He won two bronze medals at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. He has won three Paralympic World Championships and holds numerous national and state able-bodied archery records.
It's 22 yards from Fabry's target to the end of his driveway, he said. Backing up to the opposite side of the street gives him a 42-yard shot to the target, which is enclosed on three sides in his garage.
"You shoot 70 meters in the competition," Fabry said. That's roughly 78 yards, he said.
Tulare Police Capt. Wes Hensley said the reason Fabry has been able to practice from the street so long is that no one had filed a complaint until Monday, which then required further research. Police did not release the name of the person who filed the complaint.
Ordinance cited
Tulare ordinance 8.36.170, which Tulare police have referenced in Fabry's matter, states: "No person other than peace officers in the discharge of their duties shall use, maintain, possess, fire, or discharge any firearm, airgun, bow and arrow, sling shot or any other weapon potentially dangerous to wildlife or human safety except in areas, at times and under conditions designated by the Director for such use."
However, the code police referenced is listed as a city park ordinance, so it's unknown how it applies to homes or streets. ("Director" in the code likely refers to the head of the city's park and recreation department.)
On Monday afternoon, Hensley said he doesn't know if Fabry's use of his bow and arrow in his own driveway is against the city ordinance or not.
"I need to get a hold of the city attorney to find out," the police captain said. As of Monday evening the matter had not been decided. A call made by the Advance-Register to city attorney Steve Kabot's office after business hours did not reach the attorney.
Beijing awaits
Fabry plans to leave Tulare on Aug. 31 for the Olympic Training Center in Colorado before leaving for China.
Fabry's father-in-law, Leon Snow, said Tulare should give Fabry more encouragement and support — as it has for its Olympians from the 1940s and 1950s.
"This town got behind Bob Mathias. They got behind Sim Iness. But my son, who's shooting in the Paralympics, they can't get behind him?" Snow said.
Fabry's neighbor, retired teacher Ron Parr, said he has no problem with Fabry practicing in his own driveway or even from across the street.
"He is the most careful and conscientious person when it comes to his shooting," Parr said. "I am proud to be his neighbor because he is an Olympic champion. It's an honor."
Fabry said the situation may lead to a drastic decision. "If I can't shoot here at my house, I will probably move to another city where I can do my job," he said.

ZHANG (CHN) takes gold to break Korea's 24-year reign

ZHANG Juan Juan (CHN) broke Korea's 24-year stranglehold on the women's individual event, claiming the gold medal with the last arrow of a riveting final against PARK Sung-Hyun (KOR) at the Olympic Green Archery Field on Thursday.

To win the Olympic title, No. 27 seed ZHANG had to beat all of the top three seeded Korean women, including PARK, the individual gold medallist at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

ZHANG won the final over PARK 110-109.

In the semi-final, ZHANG took out the No. 1 ranked archer in the world, YUN Ok-Hee, 115-109. ZHANG's score equalled the Olympic record PARK set earlier in the day. In the quarterfinal, she beat JOO Hyung-Jung (KOR) 106-101.

YUN Ok-Hee (KOR) went on to win the bronze medal against KWON Un Sil (PRK) 109-106.

Khatuna LORIG (USA) was fifth, Nami HAYAKAWA (JPN) sixth, JOO seventh and Mariana AVITIA (MEX) eighth.

RUBAN (UKR) squashes Korean hopes for individual title

Viktor RUBAN (UKR) prevented PARK Kyung-Mo (KOR) from winning Korea's first men's individual Olympic title with the very last arrow of their gold medal match at the Olympic Green Archery Field on Friday.

In a tightly-contested gold medal match, the No. 3 seed RUBAN defeated the No. 4 seed PARK 113-112.

RUBAN was lucky to have been in the gold medal match having barely made it through the semi-finals. To shoot in the gold medal match, RUBAN had to break a 112-112 tie with Bair BADENOV (RUS) in a two-arrow shoot off.

PARK, who celebrates his birthday today, was also lucky to have been in the gold medal match. He almost didn't make it into the top four, having tied Juan Carlos STEVENS (CUB) in the quarterfinal match 108-108. On a two-arrow shoot off, PARK launched a 10 to break the tie. PARK then beat Juan Rene SERRANO (MEX) in the semi-finals, 115-112.

RUBAN will add his individual gold medal to his team bronze won at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. PARK will add his individual silver medal won in Beijing to his two team gold medals from the Athens Games and the Beijing Games.

In the bronze medal match, the No. 31 seed BADENOV defeated the No. 1 seed SERRANO, 110-105.

Juan Carlos STEVENS was fifth, Ryuichi MORIYA (JPN) sixth, Victor WUNDERLE (USA) seventh and CHENG Chu Sian (MAS) eighth.

South Korean Archers Banned for Pulling Out of Training

South Korea's world-class archers were ordered to clean up city sewage, stay up all night, stare at dead bodies in a crematory and climb a mountain with a rubber dinghy on their backs.
It's all part of a training regime designed to toughen them, mentally and physically, for the world outdoor archery championships in Beijing.
But the country's top four male archers -- all Olympic medallists -- said the Aug. 7-10 training was too intense and pulled out after one day. The Korea Archery Association banned them from the championship that begins Sept. 15, and from running for the national team for up to five years.
"It's a bit late to regret it, but we really did not expect to be replaced," said Kim Bo-ram, ranked fourth in the world.
The sudden gap in the ranks of South Korea's archery team highlights the gruelling methods it has used to reach the sport's top level. South Korea has won 11 gold, six silver and four bronze Olympic medals in archery since first competing in Los Angeles in 1984.
Since 1988, South Korean archers have trained by handling snakes, meditating at a Buddhist temple and walking through a haunted house full of actors in ghoulish outfits. They have also physical endurance tests at military camps.
At this year's training at a navy base in the southern port of Jinhae, both men and women carted an 80-kilogram boat up a mountain, and swam in the sea until their body temperatures plummeted. Four female archers completed the exercise.
"This training has contributed to South Korean archers' performance by helping them control themselves and work under pressure," said Kim Il-chi, vice chairman of the private archery association.
He said other Asian nations have noted the success of South Korea's archers and are studying the training program; China has sent archers to South Korea to run through the same regimen.
Raoul Theeuws, the Belgian vice-president of archery's world committee, known as FITA, said South Korea's tough training teaches discipline.
"But the system works effectively on Asian archers because it suits their social context. It could never work in Western countries," Theeuws said.
Other South Korean athletes undergo severe training. Experts in tae kwon do, a martial art that originated in Korea, sit in cold weather with little clothing and pour cold water on their bodies. When pro golfer Se Ri Pak was a teenager, her father taught her courage by forcing her to sleep in a cemetery. He also made her run up 15 flights of stairs and backpedal all the way down.
Kim, the vice-chairman, said this year's program was similar to previous training and that the male archers may have been too confident.
Kim, the archer, described the haunted house exercise as "a piece of cake," but disagreed they were overconfident.
"This year, we were all a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of the training and we really couldn't afford even a small injury just a month before the championships," said Kim, 28, a silver medallist in the team competition at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
The other three male archers, Jang Yong-ho, Kim Chung-tae and Chang Jae-hun, declined comment.
South Korea's top female archer, who has less experience than the men, acknowledged that the training was harsh.
"There were some side effects, but I feel good and I think it has helped me prepare for the coming championships," said 18-year-old Park Sung-hyun.
Last year, South Korean archers trained for the Sydney Olympics by shooting arrows in front of thousands of spectators at a baseball park in Seoul. As instructed, the crowd cheered when the archers shot well and booed when they were off the mark.

THE ELDEST: Danielle Brown

Two sisters from Lothersdale have had some excellent success in archery with the eldest Danielle Brown going to Paralympics and the youngest Georgina set to compete for Great Britain in the World Championships later this year.
ParalympicsGB has named Danielle as part of the 11-strong archery squad to represent Britain at this summer's Paralympic Games in Beijing.
Twenty-year-old Danielle is the youngest member of the ParalympicsGB archery squad for this summer's Games.
Danielle, who took up archery five years ago and within three years had made it to the international squad, won two gold medals at the world championships in Korea in 2007.
She said: "Going to Beijing will be a big thrill and I'm very excited about it.
"It is the result of a lot of hard work and I've actually deferred my university degree to concentrate on Beijing."
Danielle is joined in the ParalympicsGB archery team by Paralympic champions John Cavanagh (London) and Kathy Critchlow Smith (Oxford) as well as Games debutants Mike Karphillides (Luton), Mick Beard (Cornwall), Pippa Britton (Newport, South Wales), Lynne Burton (Chelmsford), Mel Clarke (Norwich), Kay Lucas (Ludlow), Fred Stevens (Hinckley, Leicestershire) and John Stubbs (Warrington).
Head coach and archery team manager Tim Hazell, said: "Danielle is a superb young talent that just gets better and better and is looking to add to her gold at the worlds.

"Overall this is a very strong squad we are sending out and I have no doubt that we will be bringing home some medals.
"I am delighted for all the archers who have made the squad, they are all there on merit and they will do us all proud."
ParalympicsGB Chief Executive for the Beijing Games, Phil Lane said: "It's fantastic to see so many archers qualify for the ParalympicsGB team for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
"With the inclusion of the compound bow for the first time, ParalympicsGB have the opportunity to bring home more medals."
The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games opens on September 6 and closes on September 17.
The archery events at the Games take place at the Olympic Green Archery Field and will run from September 9 to 15.
Following in her sister's footsteps Georgina Brown has followed in the footsteps of her elder sister Danielle's archery success with some excellent accomplishments of her own.
Like her sister and indeed the rest of the family, Geogie shoots the compound bow, which her father Duncan Brown said is unfortunately not yet an event in the Olympics (currently this is the recurve bow only).
This year however the compound bow has been added to the Paralympics for the first time and Danielle is a member of the 11-strong squad.
Georgie, a 15-year-old pupil at South Craven School and member of Aire Valley Archers, however, has had some individual successes of her own and has been selected as the compound girl representative to shoot for the England team in the Junior Outdoor Home Nations Tournament to be held this Saturday at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire as part of the Junior Champs Weekend.
Georgie's latest success is to be selected to shoot for the Great Britain archery team for the Youth World Championships in Antalya, Turkey, from October 6-12.
In order to be selected Georgie first needed to attain scores above a set criteria in order to be invited to a selection shoot held on June 12 at Lilleshall.
At the selection shoot three positions were available for the Compound Cadet girl category with four other girl cadets having also attained the required standard.
Georgie not only came through the morning shoot in first place but in a round-robin league table in the afternoon she won every match to come through in first place.
Her father Duncan said: "Georgie has come on leaps and bounds this year. I personally think she a lot of potential. She's breaking all of Danielle's records."
In addition to the achievements already mentioned, Georgie's other archery successes include: Northern Counties girl indoor compound champion 2005, 2006 and 2007 (shot every November - the girl champion is for U-18s).
Yorkshire Indoors girl indoor compound champion 2006 and 2008 (shot each March - the girl champion is for U-18s).
Yorkshire Target (outdoor) compound girl champion 2007 and 2008 (shot each June - the girl champion is for U-18s).
Junior National Indoor Champion 2007 - U-16 girl compound bow (shot each December).

Written in Osmanli Turkish, there are now paragraphs, and chapter headings are set in ornamented parentheses. There
are 278 pages.
The page size measures 6” by 8½”, and the box enclosing the text is 3?” by 6¾”. The spine of the book is cloth, and the
boards are marbled on the outer surface.
The back of the book has a folded page with 21 illustrations bearing Turkish captions. Most of these appear in pages 273-
278 inclusive.
Pages 3-4 contain the firman, or Imperial Edict issued by Sultan Mahmud II in 1836, as a result of which Kani undertook
the work.
Pages 4-36 inclusive contain the writings of Abdullah Effendi. He was scribe at the Ayub Ansari Mosque. It consists of a
dedication to the ruler, and the forty hadith about archery, along with other religious material. Kani also includes his own

Archery Class for Teachers

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Section will host an Archery in the Schools Program training on August 12 and 13 at the Summersville Armory in Summersville, West Virginia, according to Jerry Westfall, Program Coordinator.

“We have tried for some time to arrange AIS training in the central part of the state, and we are happy to have succeeded,” says Westfall. “This training will allow area schools to participate in DNR’s largest and fastest growing educational program. Since its inception in 2004, more than 30,000 students have been introduced to archery as part of their physical education classes in 140 West Virginia schools. We wanted to show our appreciation to Summersville, which hosted the successful 2008 AIS State Tournament and will be hosting the 2009 AIS State Tournament, by holding this training in Summersville. Of course, since this is a state-wide program, teachers from around the state may participate in any of our trainings.”

Teachers interested in attending this free training in Summersville have until July 15 to register. Since classroom size is limited to only 25 teachers and slots are available on a first come, first served basis, teachers are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
Also, more than one teacher may consider enrolling from individual schools, especially if schools are interested in having AIS in multiple PE classes and/or after-hours training for tournament competition.
“I encourage all interested educators in the area to sign up and introduce this tremendously popular program to their schools,” says Westfall. “As added incentives, the training is free to school employees, and teachers may be eligible to receive Continuing Education Hours.”

SETTING TO rest all doubts about her current form, Dola Banerjee (date of birth; June 2,1980) has succeeded in getting selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics archery event. At the end of the four-day trials on Sunday (June 29) for the mega event at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Eastern Centre, she secured her second successive Olympics berth. She was second with 5141 points out of a possible 5760 points. Dola Banerjee would join up with two other participants V Pranita and L Bombyla Devi and head for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Let us join in wishing them success and hope that they bring home the medals.

To qualify for the Olympics, each archer had to shoot 144 arrows daily for four days over a distance of 70m for a total of 576 arrows. However, at the actual Olympics, an archer will shoot only 72 arrows over the 70m distance in the FITA round qualification. Only 64 archers make it to the Olympics round knockout individual championship and top 16 nations for the team championship. The event of archery would be held over a seven day period from August 9 to 15 at the Olympic Green Archery Field, which is a temporary venue on the Olympic Green in Beijing’s Olympic Park.

Dola Banerjee is a talented women archer of India. She has inspired the women archers to carve niche in this sport as the first woman archer from India. She undertook training from the Tata Archery Academy at Jamshedpur and won the 42nd World Outdoor Target Archery Championship in New York and qualified for the Olympics.

She achieved international success in a sport traditionally considered to be a male bastion. She was the first Indian woman archer to qualify for the Olympics; won the 18th Golden Arrow Grand Prix tournament at Antalya; gold in 2006 South Asian federation (SAF) Games. She won the world championship in archery and is a recipient of the prestigious Arjun award for sports persons in 2005. Her first international appearance was in Youth World Championship in San Diego in 1996. Dola Banerjee became world champion in archery by winning the gold medal in the women’s individual recurve competition at the archery world cup held at Dubai, in November 2007. She is a cousin of the singers Shaan and Sagarika.

The sad part is that the organisations seldom come forward to receive individuals who win awards from overseas. It happened with Vishwanathan Anand and also with Dola Bannerji. This is in sharp contrast to huge crowds who usually gather at airports to receive their cricket heroes – they spend hours in all types of inclement weather to welcome them and take out victory processions. We saw it when Dhoni returned after the T-2-0 World Cup win – traffic came to a standstill in Mumbai. However, in the case of Dola, there were only a handful of persons from the archery federation and a few enthusiasts to receive her at the Dum Dum airport when she returned victorious from Dubai on November 24, 2007.

Korea’s National Archery Team Adopts New Training Method

For the past 20 years Korea has been seen as one of the top competitors in the sport of archery. And to keep this title the Korean national archery team is taking its training methods to a whole new level
The athletes are using simulation training to stay in tip-top shape for the upcoming 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. This approach allows for athletes to re-enact real situations similar to the ones they will be facing in a few months time with a manufactured audience and recorded crowd sounds.
At the Korea National Training Center in Taeneung, Seoul, the only national training village for athletes in Korea, archers say the simulation training method is proving to be quite beneficial.
Although the Chinese athletes have a homeground advantage, with this innovative training method Korean archers say they are confident that Korea will be able to maintain its top position in the field.

Youth Olympic Games ( YOG )

In the summer 2010 the IOC will organize the first Youth Olympic Games (YOG). The objective is to get together about 3500 young and talented athletes aged between 14 and 18 years old.

Most of the Summer International Federations are involved in the 2010 edition of the YOG. As it is the case for the Olympic Games, winter editions of the YOG will also take place, based on the same format of the Olympics.

FITA has been among the first International Federation to react to the IOC call. An Ad Hoc commission has been created and the collaboration with the IOC Sports Department is important.

With the goal to present an attractive competition format for a limited number of athletes, FITA is proposing a five days competition with 32 boys and 32 girls participating. A ranking round at 70m will take place on the first day, with eliminations and Olympic Round Finals on days 3, 4 and 5. The second day will be dedicated to a mixed team competition, 1 girl and 1 boy, in match format (1/8, 1/4, 1/2, bronze and gold).

The IOC also wishes young officials and young technical experts to take part in the competitions. FITA would like to propose 13 International Judges, acting under the responsibility of the Judges Committee: seven judges being under 42 years old and six being between 18 and 25 years old. These judges would be specially trained for this event and would be a good asset for the future of our sport.

The IOC wishes the Youth Olympic Games to be a return to the origin of the Olympic Games spirit. The Cultural and Sportive dimension of the Games will be important as well as the image of Fair-Play.

The Archery Family understands the importance of such an event for the future of our sport. The goal of this page is to keep everybody informed about this new and exciting project.

VVC teacher dies after freak archery accident

SPRING VALLEY LAKE — An assistant professor at Victor Valley College died Thursday following a freak accident when an archery bow broke, penetrating his head, officials said.
When the compound bow broke, a 14-inch portion lodged in Robert Feddersen’s head, according to his friend and colleague Paul Tonning. The accident happened Monday afternoon at Feddersen’s Spring Valley Lake home.
Feddersen, 36, was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department officials. There he underwent surgery to remove the broken bow.
“The family had to make a decision to either leave the rod in place, which would have meant very little chance for Robert’s survival, or operate and remove it, which meant he would have the chance of severe hemorrhaging,” said Tonning’s blog. “It was not an easy decision to say the least, but the family opted for surgery.”
Feddersen took a turn for the worse and died on Thursday, according to Bill Greulich, spokesman for the college.
“It’s just a terrible loss,” Gruelich said. “I’m saddened by the news and feel for his family and friends.”
Tonning has known Feddersen for 10 years when Feddersen was a student in Tonning’s class.
“He’s very compassionate and very passionate about his job and about his teaching,” said an emotional Tonning.
Fellow professor Shane Thomas, who along with Feddersen and Tonning were known as the Three Amigos, also felt a great loss at Feddersen’s death.
“He’s a really good friend,” Thomas said. “He’s the kind of guy who would drop whatever he’s doing to help anyone.”

Olympic Qualification Tournament for Europe: Places Awarded!

Tears of joy and sheer frustration were shed on Thursday 15 May at the Continental Qualification Tournament for the Beijing Olympic. This event was held during the European Championships in Vittel, France.

Recurve Women

women had their chance to secure an Olympic spot for their country. The tension was on, as only the top 3 could win a ticket to Beijing 2008. These spots are on top of the ones won at the World Championships 2007 in Leipzig, Germany.

All athletes surpassed themselves, but in the end only three happy faces stepped onto the podium: Zekiye Keskin Satir (TUR) photo won Gold, while Sabrina Struyf (BEL) and Evangelia Psarra (GRE) took Silver and Bronze respectively.

Recurve Men

In the afternoon it was the men’s turn to be in a token appearance and try to qualify for the Games. Everyone was aware of what was at stake, which made it a very exciting competition not only for the athletes but for the crowd as well. Everyone was cheering for their favourite.

The three Frenchmen were in the running for Olympic tickets. However, in the end only home crowd favourite Romain Girouille photo prevailed taking the win and securing his spot for Beijing. Andrey Abramov from Russia took the second Olympic spot and Ron van der Hoff from the Netherlands took the third place.

Archery For Relaxation And Sport

Archery is still a very popular sport with sportsmen. In fact contrary to what you might have thought the number of people taking up archery is actually growing each year. So why not learn the basics of archery? You never know you might just enjoy it!
So why is archery growing? Well most of us lead these busy hectic lives and escaping from that daily routine can often be found in taking up a sport or a pastime. Many have found just that relaxation in archery. There’s something about a bow and arrow that feels so primitive, so basic and fundamental, that it seems to drain the stress away from us.
Now many people enjoy hunting as well so they use a bow for hunting especially during deer season. But others have no interest in hunting and so they use their newly found skills in all kinds of target shoots or competitions that are held by Archery clubs.
It’s always important to choose the correct equipment. There are three types of bows to choose from, the compound bow, the cross bow, and the recurve bow.
The compound bow is the most popular because it is easier to handle, creates less arm fatigue, and it shoots much faster. The faster an arrow is during its flight the flatter its trajectory will be which leaves more room for error when you are judging the distance. There are many different compound bows available.
The recurve bow has been making a come back in recent years. The cross bow which is a cross between a rifle and a bow is actually banned in many states so check with your local officials before purchasing a crossbow.
Which ever type of bow you choose you will need to consider the weight of it. You should always choose a draw weight that you are comfortable with. The higher the draw weight the faster the arrow but the hard the bow is to handle.
You will also need to determine your individual draw length. To determine your personal draw length stand at a right angle to your wall, then place your knuckles on that wall. Now have someone measure the distance from the wall to the corner of your mouth. This will give you your draw length.
When you are ready to try shooting your bow and arrow you must first get your stance correct. You should stand perpendicular to your target with your feet a shoulder length apart straddling the shoot line. Use the balls of your feet to balance yourself, then stand tall but not stiffly with your knees slightly relaxed.
Now you need to pace the arrow nock onto the bowstring. The index feathers should point away from the bow. Lay the arrow on the arrow rest then snap the nock onto the bowstring.
If you grasp the bow exactly the same each time you will guarantee yourself a consistent draw which will help your accuracy. After the bow hand has been set you take the string in the first joint of the first 3 fingers of your shooting hand. Then raise the bow toward your target. Now lock your bow arm into position then push with the shoulder of your bow arm while pulling with the shoulder of your draw arm until the bowstring touches your nose. Aim carefully then release and follow through by continuing to pull your draw hand along the base of your neck.
That’s it. It may sound complicated on paper but the entire process is really not that difficult once you get the hang of it. You might want to consider taking a couple of archery lessons at a local club to get you started.
Archery is a relaxing sport and pastime so if you’re looking to try something new why not consider archery?

40 Years of Compound Designs: The Changes I Have Seen
Oh the changes I have seen in the compound bow!-From when I first started designing and shooting them in the early 70’s-until now. During those first years of selling the four wheeled compound, the market was limited, four wheelers were the only design available. At Martin we worked on the Kam Act and the one cam Dynabo around 1974. By 1976 the two wheel models were released and they soon took the market from the four wheel designs. The single cam Dynabo continued to sell into the middle 80’s.
One of the problems facing all bows at that time was string and cable stretch. The stretching was less of a problem for the four wheel bows than it was for the all string Dynabo. All string meant more stretching. Airline cables were used for the bus cables on standard compounds and this meant less string stretch for cabled bows. Around 1990 improved bowstring technology nearly eliminated any problems with string stretch.
Once the two wheel bows were perfected in the late 1970’s the four wheel models started to disappear. By the early 90’s the market was ready for some new ideas. In 1992 Matt McPherson started Mathews and reintroduced the one cam design. McPherson promoted his “Solocam” idea heavily via magazines and paid shooter programs. This highly effective advertising caused the single cam system to take over the market. The demand for one cam bows was driving the majority of bow sales-until recently. Even though the single cam was not as fast as a two cam bow, the promotional claim of “no tuning needed” created great deal of sales.
By 1998 Hoyt reintroduced and promoted 1 ½ or hybrid cam system designed by Darton. We now have several manufacturers making a move towards hybrid dual cam designs. Dual cam bows are faster and because of improved string material the tuning problems are minimal. What will the future bring? I can assure you that us bow designers are working on lots of fun new toys. I feel that the hybrid dual cam systems will continue to take over more of the market. Our bow sales definitely show this to be true.-Terry Martin

Youth World Championships go to Turkey!

Lausanne – 4 March 2008

The next FITA Youth World Championships will be held in Antalya, Turkey, from the 6 – 11 October 2008.

After the decision by Council to withdraw the event from India, the bid was opened and four member associations have shown interest to host the event. These four were Namibia, Poland, Mexico and Turkey. After an evaluation the Executive Committee forwarded the recommendation to FITA Council to award the event to Antalya, Turkey. FITA Council approved this recommendation.

Turkey was Cadet Team World Champion in Merida 2006
The event will be held on a field part of the beautiful Kamelya hotel complex in the Manavgat touristy area, and not on the regular Antalya World Cup field, since this one would be too small to accommodate the archers entered for such an event. However the experienced team organizing the event will be the same, which was important knowing the short time to prepare for the event.

This will be the last time the Youth World Championships will be held in even years. For the 2009 edition, qualifier for the next Youth Olympic Games, an announcement will be made in the next two weeks.

A great 33 countries will compete in the European and Mediterranean Indoor Archery Championship that is held in Turin this week. Most of them truly hope for medal glory in a venue of the Olympic Games.

Italian Recurve Men Team in Izmir 2007
In Recurve Men, the favourites include current Indoor World Champion Rohrberg (GER), Bekker (UKR), Van Alten (NED), Dobrowolski (POL), Peart and Needham (GBR), Tavernier (FRA), Pavlov and Hirstov (BUL). Italy is the current Team Indoor World Champion in this category and will play Olympic gold medallist Galiazzo together with Tonelli and Nespoli.

In Recurve Women, the strongest trio is probably Mospinek, Cwienczek and Marcinkiewicz from Poland. They will take on last year raising star Edyniyeva (RUS), Marcen (SLO), Marusava (BLR), Burgess and Folkard (GBR), Oktem (TUR), Palekha and Dorokhova (UKR). Italy will also have a strong team in this category with World Champion Valeeva as well as Tonetta and Lionetti.

In Compound Men, there are a bunch of previous world medallists such as Damsbo (DEN), Custers and Elzinga (NED), Boe (NOR), Sitar (SLO), Hofer (SUI) and one of the best careers in archery, Lundin (SWE). The best hope for Italy is the recent winner in Nîmes, Pagni (ITA).

On the women’s side, we will put our attention on FITA Round world record holder Willems (BEL), recent Las Vegas winner Simpson (GBR) and teammate Hunt, the famous Goncharova and Loginova (RUS), Ioannou (GRE), Buden and Zorman (CRO). They will take on the Indoor and Outdoor World Champion in 2007, the Italian Salvi!

There are also Junior competitions in all these categories, in which double Junior World Champion Anastasio (ITA) will compete.

The Archery venue for this event is located inside the Palace “Oval Lingotto”, built and used for the competitions of Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games. It will include a qualification field, a training field and a special field for the finals, as well as a very large area for spectators.

S. Korean coach for Iraq's archery teams
-The Iraqi Archery Federation will start official negotiations by mid-March with its South Korea's federation to contract a coach for the national teams."The coach will be responsible for Iraqi teams of both males and females to prepare them for numerous coming competitions that will take place this year," Kareem Hamad, the Secretary General of the Iraqi Archery Federation, told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI), adding "the S. Korean game expert, Mon, who trained the Iraqi archery team last year, will visit Sulaimaniya province in the Iraqi Kurd people region next week to coordinate between the two federations in this respect."
According to Hamad, "Iraq's archery federation has allocated a monthly salary of 5,000 U.S. dollar for the new coach that will get a contract of one year to train Iraqi archery teams."
The Iraqi Archery Federation was established in 1984.

JAMSHEDPUR: It rained records at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here during the 28th senior National archery championship. As many as 10 National records were set on a day that was marred by intermittent rain.

Jayanta Talukdar, the highest-ranked Indian man in the world at 26, upstaged the individual overall FITA round record by accumulating 1,354 points. Kh. Ratan Kumar of Services also produced a new mark totalling 1,357 in the compound bow section.
There were four more individual records. Dola Banerjee’s 331 in the 50m bested her own mark of 328 set at Ernakulam in 2005. Bhegyabati Chanu’s 338 in the women’s compound 70m was better than Jhanu Hansdah’s 334 set at Kolkata in 2006.
S. Basanta of Manipur scored 329 points in the 50m of Indian round. This bettered 326 by Th. Sanatamba Singh of Manipur set at Vijayawada last year. Pratibha Boro too established a record in the women’s 30m with a total of 332. The previous record was 322 by L. Gitanjali Devi of Manipur set last year.Finalists
All the finalists have been identified in the Olympic round individual round in women’s recurve, men’s and women’s compound and in Indian rounds. Dola Banerjee and L. Bombayla Devi would contest for the women’s recurve gold medal while Jharkhand teammates Namita Yadav and Niva Kerketta would fight for the women’s compound gold.
Santosh Tamang of Services and Vikash Sherawat of Delhi moved into the final of the men’s compound individual section. The surprise of the day was the elimination of reigning queen of women’s compound in the country, Jhanu Hansdah, and the second best archer Bhegyabati Chanu. National champion Jhanu lost to Statemate Sumanlata Murmu in the pre-quarterfinals at 111-112 while Bhegyabati lost to Shreya Sen of Manipur in the quarterfinals at 104-106.
The men’s individual Olympic round and team Olympic rounds and other individual finals would be held on Thursday.

The compound bow in archery was a revolutionary invention that has changed the sport forevermore. The compound bow in archery was invented in the mid 1960s by an American engineer named Howless Wibur Allen. In 1961 he got inspired by the then launching of Hoyt Pro Medalist Bow. This bow was one of the very first to have vertical stabilizers on it, and Allen had another idea to add to it-the wheel. He harnessed the principle of the block and tackle pulley to the bow and felt (correctly) that this would enhance a bow’s performance. The mechanics of the pulley system would, he reasoned, allow a heavier weight to be drawn. After continued experimentation he found that round pulleys and cam-shaped wheels worked best and they were riding on off-set axles called “eccentrics”. The compound bow reaches its peak weight in the middle of the draw; beyond this point as the archer continues to draw back the weight of the draw is significantly reduced, allowing an average-sized archer to comfortably hold a very heavy weight. The compound bow in archery gives an amazing flat trajectory to an arrow’s flight.
It actually took several years for Allen to get anyone to manufacture his new invention, the compound bow. American laws prohibited the use of mechanical devices attached to bows. So, the compound bow could not be used for hunting nor in competitions. Allen began making his own bows, sure that they would catch on so strongly that the laws would be rewritten (and he was once again correct). However, when he was making his own compound bows he realized that he had a design flaw, as he kept on stripping the fletching off his arrows. The crossing cables in the center of the bow were interfering with the arrow’s flight. By 1967 Allen had figured out that he needed to add an extra set of “idle” wheels that got mounted at the center of each limb. These idle wheels were set at 90 degree angles to the limb-tip, and this allowed the cables to now cross to one side of the center line so that they no longer interfered with the arrows’ flight path. With more research, Allen added riser-mounted adjusters so that the archer could use different cable lengths to attain different weights. These adjusters were gear-driven and acted very much like the machine heads for tuning a guitar.
By this time, the compound bow or “Allen bow” was a superior instrument. The flatter and faster trajectory that an arrow could be given due to the increase in stored potential energy meant that now a heavy hunting arrow would be able to find its mark more often and would fly with greater speed. The lighter weight as compared to a recurve bow of the same draw weight meant that this bow was more comfortable to use, as well. However, the sport’s governing body still would have nothing to do with it.

However, the famous American archer and archery magazine editor Tom Jennings love the idea and he used his pull to get the governing body to begin reconsidering its stance. Jennings published an article titled “A Bow with a Compound Interest”. From there, the compound bow found its way into archery.

Turkish bow

The design and material of the bow change to suit its archer. One of such bow is composite bow. By definition, composite bow is bow made of more than one material. A Mamluk bow manuscript describes one such bow,
“The best bow should be composed of four substances: wood, horn, glue and sinew. There is a wonderful wisdom in this. That wisdom is this: Human beings consist of four substances: bone, sinew, blood and flesh. The composite bow also consists of those four substances. The wood corresponds to bone in man. The horn corresponds to the flesh in man. The sinew is like the sinew of man. The glue is like the blood of man.”
The passage personifies the bow. The bow is not just a tool but a projection of its user. The drawing method of Turkish archer is quite different from modern archery. Instead of using index, middle and ring finger, Turkish archer uses his thumb to draw the bow which is drawn to the ear lobe. According to the manuscript, “The limit of the correct draw should reach the lobe of the ear. It shouldnot be less than that. If it is, it is a mistake.” This method of drawing is also used by the Mongols and the Huns. This drawing method is effective for horse archery because the archer can draw and hold the rein at the same time.
Composite bow is very flexible and compact. This makes it easier to carry on horseback. A picture is worth a thousand words. Look at the picture below.

Notice how short the bow is compares to archer's draw length. Also notice rein in archer's right hand. Also notice the horse at full gallop. The archer reaches his full draw and ready to release when the horse is in mid-air. One of the challenges of doing horse archery is that there is no stable platform for archer. The solution is to release the arrow when the horse is motionless when all four of its legs are in the air. This maneuverability allowed horse archer to shoot while moving without losing accuracy.
Another interesting thing about Turkish archers is the existence of the manuscript on archery itself. The author of the manuscript explicitly refered to other manuscript which he used as a reference:
"Be it known to you that the reason for composing this treatise was that (a turkish name, probably a sultan) summoned me, this weak and miserable one. He placed several books on archery written in Arabic before me, and he requested from me ... that I write a book on archery in Turkish using these and other books."
The existence of many books on archery indicates a special status of archery in medieval middle east. The manuscript's content is pretty much a coaching and how-to manual on archery. For my research, I found only two or three books in Green library that are meant to be a guide book on archery like the manuscript. Furthermore, it indicates a more important thing about Turkish archers: they were literate or else the books would be useless. The practice of archery must have been common among middle eastern medieval warriors.

"Know and be aware that God,..., made archery and raising horses with the intention to fight a farz (religious obligation). As God,...has stated in Koran..."Make ready for them whatever force and strings of horses you can." "
"The Apostle of God said: "Whoever shoots an arrow in the way of God...God will give (him) a reward amounting to what is granted for freeing a slave,...the Prophet said:"He who learned archery and then gave it up, verily he disobeyed me."...The Apostle of God said:" he who learns archery and then gives it up and no longer shoots arrows is not one of us."

Russian Archers Show İn Dubai , Archery World Cup Final

India wins a World Cup Final !
Dubai – 24 November 2007

Dola Banerjee from India has taken the World Cup Title in the Recurve Women division today in beautiful Dubai! She beat the Korean Choi Eun Young in a very tight and exciting match on a 70-meter floating platform at the Madinat Jumeirah Souk venue. In Men Recurve the best archer of the season, Russian Baljinima Tsyrempilov took the win over young, promising Mexican Juan Rene Serrano. In the Compound category, a pregnant lady, Petra Ericsson of Sweden won the World Cup title in the women’s side, while Salvadorian star Jorge Jimenez clinched victory in the men’s competition.

Recurve Men

In the final match of the day and final match of the 2007 Meteksan Archery World Cup, the Russian Baljinima Tsyrempilov, who had proved the more regular archer this year, was facing the up-and-coming star from Mexico Juan Rene Serrano. The two athletes started strong both with two 10s and a 9 (29-29). In the second end Tsyrempilov shot a triple 9 for a score of 56 points. Serrano lost one point over his opponent with a 9-8-9 series (55). The Mexican managed to remain close in the third end with 10-9-9 (83), while his Russian contender scored 8-10-10 (84). Shooting 10-9-9 Tsyrempilov drew out his experience at the end and he managed to hold off Serrano who finished with 8-9-10. Final score 112-110 and first World Cup Final victory for the Russian! After his victory over Serrano, Baljinima Tsyrempilov said he was not really surprised to win here: “I am very pleased to win but I am not surprised. I came to this World Cup final as the number one ranked archer and so I had to show that I was the number one and I did that. Experience is important. I have won many titles in the past and it is this experience that helps in the most important matches.” For the bronze medal of this division Michele Frangilli of Italy was facing Alan Wills of Great Britain. After a difficult start Wills took advantage of a bad shot from his opponent in the last end – Frangilli shot a 4 (!) at that time – to turn the match over and clinch victory and on the score of 103-102.

Recurve Women

The gold medal match in Recurve Women was between Dola Banerjee of India and Choi Eun Young of Korea! It was Choi who was shooting first and she started with 9-9-10 (28). Banerjee was trailing behind by 1 point after the first end with 10-8-9 (27). The Korean started the second end with an 8 but went on with two 10s to keep her short lead over her opponent who scored two 9s and one 10 (56-55). The two athletes were very close to each other. They both shot 10-9-10 and the lead remained to Choi (85-84). Spectators thought it was the end of Banerjee's hopes when she shot an 8 with her tenth arrow... but Choi released a 7 at this point! The score was tied! Both continued with a 9 and it was still tied. With an 8 at the last arrow by Banerjee, Choi would need a 9 to win... She shot an 8 (!) and offered victory and the World Cup title to the Indian! Dola Banerjee after her upset over Korean Choi Eun Young: “That is the biggest victory for me. The Koreans are always very strong. I didn’t feel very good at the start of the semi-final – my concentration was not good. But towards the end of that match I found my focus and that continued into the final. Perhaps I put too much pressure on myself in the semi-final but in the final I felt more relaxed.” No 1 ranked in the World Natalya Erdyniyeva was facing 2007 World Cup Winner Zhang Juan Juan in this bronze medal match of this division. The Russian Erdyniyeva didn’t start well but went stronger and stronger. She also benefited from a 6 by the defending champion to clinch victory on the final score of 106-103.

Compound Men

The second gold medal match was between Salvadorian star Jorge Jimenez and 2007 World Indoor Champion Braden Gellenthien of the USA. The latter opened solidly with 9-10-10, but his opponent started even stronger with a perfect 10-10-10 series! In the second end, it was Gellenthien's turn to shoot perfectly and he reached 59 points out of a possible 60. Jimenez scored 29 points in this end and the match was tied at the half-way mark (59-59!) With the next three arrows, Jimenez shot three 10s again and took a 1-point advantage for the second time of the match. Gellenthien shot 10-10-9 and the score was now 89-88 in favour of his contender. With 10-9-9 in the last end, the American did not manage to put enough pressure on the experienced Salvadorian. Jimenez shot 10-9-10 to win victory here in Dubai! After beating Braden Gellenthien, Jorge Jimenez said: “I was very nervous in fact. I just had to keep saying to myself that I should focus on the target. I was able to do this and it helped me to win the match. It has been a very good year for me and this is a special way to end it. This has been my best year.” In the bronze medal match the Brazilian Roberval Dos Santos was facing the French Sebastien Brasseur. The match was tight all the way through, and it was finally the Brazilian who proved stronger at the end. He clinched victory on the final score of 116-114.

Compound Women
This gold medal match in Compound Women was to open the live TV coverage session. It featured the defending World Cup Winner, Sofia Goncharova from Russia and a pregnant happy lady, Petra Ericsson of Sweden. It was the Swede who shot first and she opened the match with a 9. Her opponent started with a liner, but it was a 9, as well. Ericsson went on strong with two 10s for a score of 29 out of 30. Goncharova was already trailing by 4 points (25-29). Ericsson did not want to let any point go and shot another 29-point end. She was thus leading by 7 after Goncharova shot 10-8-8 (58-51). How relaxed she seemed, the Swede! And she continued with a perfect triple 10 to reach 88 out of a possible 90, with only three arrows to go. Goncharova seemed totally out of her form on her side, and the match was clinched even before the last arrow. Petra Ericsson of Sweden was the first winner of the day and the new World Cup Winner in Compound Women on the final score of 115-105! When we asked Petra Ericsson how expecting a baby has impacted on her archery, she answered: “It affects me a bit but it’s been ok. Fortunately the baby kept quiet and still in the final because there had been a couple of kicks in the semi-final.” The bronze medal match in Compound Women was between the American Jamie Van Natta and the Russian Anna Kazantseva. The Russian left all hopes behind when she scored a triple 8, which is quite unusual for Compound competitors. Van Natta took advantage of this and clinched an easy victory (114-106) to win the first bronze medal of the day!

What next?
After the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens in 2004 and the Maya Pyramids in Mexico last year, Archery has just lived another fantastic competition on a special floating platform in wonderful Dubai! The Red Fort or the Asian Gate is already planned for New Delhi in 2008 and the bidding is opened for 2010 and 2011. Where will be the next incredible archery event!?

New World Record at 70m for an Iranian Athlete

New record was set at the compound Men 70m division in Isfahan, Teheran during the 2007 3rd Asian Grand Prix.The previous record (356p.) was broken by Mr. Majid Ahmad (IRI) and new record (358p.) was newly created on Oct 22, 2007!! The Iranian Athlete Majid Ahmadi has set a new World Record at 70 metres in the Compound Men division. With 358 points he breaks the former record dating from 2005 by two points.

This result was achieved at the 3rd Asian Grand Prix that took place in Iran on 20-26 October.

We congratulate Majid Ahmadi for this great achievement!

FITA Coaches Seminar finished in Goesang

The 3rd FITA World Coaching Seminar for Recurve Archery finished today in Geosang, South Korea. Mr Kim Yung Tak and Mrs Eun Kyung Lee were the first lecturers at this seminar which welcomes an audience of 75 coaches from the five continents.

The first to speak was the experienced coach Mr Kim Yung Tak who lectured on archery technique. He was followed by the famous champion Mrs Eun Kyung Lee who spoke on the preparation for the Olympic Games.

Many questions were asked by the participants on the reasons for the success of the Korean team and some light was given on the keys to this success.

Archery is still a very popular sport with sportsmen. In fact contrary to what you might have thought the number of people taking up archery is actually growing each year. So why not learn the basics of archery? You never know you might just enjoy it!So why is archery growing? Well most of us lead these busy hectic lives and escaping from that daily routine can often be found in taking up a sport or a pastime. Many have found just that relaxation in archery. There’s something about a bow and arrow that feels so primitive, so basic and fundamental, that it seems to drain the stress away from us.Now many people enjoy hunting as well so they use a bow for hunting especially during deer season. But others have no interest in hunting and so they use their newly found skills in all kinds of target shoots or competitions that are held by Archery clubs. It’s always important to choose the correct equipment. There are three types of bows to choose from, the compound bow, the cross bow, and the recurve bow.The compound bow is the most popular because it is easier to handle, creates less arm fatigue, and it shoots much faster. The faster an arrow is during its flight the flatter its trajectory will be which leaves more room for error when you are judging the distance. There are many different compound bows available.The recurve bow has been making a come back in recent years. The cross bow which is a cross between a rifle and a bow is actually banned in many states so check with your local officials before purchasing a crossbow.Which ever type of bow you choose you will need to consider the weight of it. You should always choose a draw weight that you are comfortable with. The higher the draw weight the faster the arrow but the hard the bow is to handle. You will also need to determine your individual draw length. To determine your personal draw length stand at a right angle to your wall, then place your knuckles on that wall. Now have someone measure the distance from the wall to the corner of your mouth. This will give you your draw length.When you are ready to try shooting your bow and arrow you must first get your stance correct. You should stand perpendicular to your target with your feet a shoulder length apart straddling the shoot line. Use the balls of your feet to balance yourself, then stand tall but not stiffly with your knees slightly relaxed.Now you need to pace the arrow nock onto the bowstring. The index feathers should point away from the bow. Lay the arrow on the arrow rest then snap the nock onto the bowstring. If you grasp the bow exactly the same each time you will guarantee yourself a consistent draw which will help your accuracy. After the bow hand has been set you take the string in the first joint of the first 3 fingers of your shooting hand. Then raise the bow toward your target. Now lock your bow arm into position then push with the shoulder of your bow arm while pulling with the shoulder of your draw arm until the bowstring touches your nose. Aim carefully then release and follow through by continuing to pull your draw hand along the base of your neck. That’s it. It may sound complicated on paper but the entire process is really not that difficult once you get the hang of it. You might want to consider taking a couple of archery lessons at a local club to get you started. At the Continental Qualifier for the Americas in El Salvador the dices have been thrown. For the women’s event it will be 2 Mexican and 1 US athlete while in the men’s event it is 1 Mexican, 1 Cuban and 1 Brazilian.

Women’s Event:

Janeth Garcia (MEX) beat USA's Karen Scavotto 109-107 to win the first place in the women's category. Another Mexican, Aida Roman won the third position after beating Venezuela's Leydis Brito 108-95. Venezuela had the first standby position in Leipzig and is now suffering the same ordeal.

Men’s Event :
Juan Rene Serrano, the second qualified archer for Dubai, shot very solidly all along the tournament, and gave Mexico their third olympic spot of the day. He defeated Cuban veteran Juan Carlos Stevens 110-109 for the first place. Brazil won the remaining olympic spot by means of Luiz Trainini, winner of his third place match vs. Mexico's Jorge Pablo Chapoy.

17 athletes from the Americas have obtained places for Beijing: United States (3 Men 2 Women), Mexico (2 men 2 women), Canada (3 men), Colombia (3 women), Cuba (1 men) and Brazil (1 men).

There are still two possibilities left for the countries that have not obtained places. One is by obtaining an invitation place from the IOC and the 2nd one is by obtaining a place at the final world qualifier in Boé France in June next year.

Archery World Cup Final bidding process now open!

FITA – the International Archery Federation, today officially opened the bidding process for their 2010 and 2011 World Cup Finals.

The President of FITA, Dr Ugur Erdener, made the announcement from the Federation’s headquarter in Lausanne, Switzerland. The bidding process is open to all cities, regions, FITA member associations, private event organisers and corporate partners.

FITA, in cooperation with TSE Consulting, took the initiative to make the event more attractive for potential hosts, athletes and spectators. The advantage is that the final competition can be set up in almost any location. This is the chance to produce a first class sports show right at the heart of the city. A city’s prime venue can be showcased to up to 250 million TV viewers during one event. The Archery World Cup consists of four qualifying stages held in spectacular venues around the world (2 Europe, 1 Asia and 1 America) all culminating in a grand World Cup Final where only the top archers compete over two days.

The bidding process has been structured in one simple phase. Interested parties have until 1 February 2008, midnight, to submit their bid documents. A FITA Selection Committee will select the organiser’s on 28 May in Antalya, Turkey at the third stage of the 2008 World Cup. Bid documents are available through the FITA office or can be downloaded here. Bidders have the option to bid for either the 2010 or 2011 event, or both.

“It is with great excitement that we launch the bidding process for our 2010 and 2011 World Cup Final events. The World Cup circuit has enabled us to build strong partnerships with our host cities. We encourage cities to use our event to promote themselves in creative ways. We hope that the future will only bring more innovative ideas to the table.”

I believe Archery is a great sport, which has given me a great deal of gladness and happiness! I have stayed with the hobby for 20 years and do not regret a minute of it! I never awaited that it would take me Full time. Either it be hunting, competition, or merely fun, archery can be a wonderful sport or hobby.To do it properly there is no other way than to really give yourself for it, practice everyday, learn to be aware of yourself too from the inside, and be fearless to face new challenges. Archery is for all, youthful and old, males and females.To shot the ten with your arrow, you have to certainly be informed of the proper shooting methods,but no muscles. To do it correctly every single time you are required to be mentally sure and very committed. Besides your option of bows, there are numerous things to compare in relation with arrow preference, arm guards and finger protection. At the end you need a bow with sight, a set of arrows, chest and guards, finger tab, quiver and some small accessories although don't instantly rush to a tackle dealer to expend them. So why not? First there are bow dealers who know there business and also there are dealers who don't! I suggest that you take a breathe and decide first what you are really after.To pick up the needed gear is not a not expensive and especially no simple process, so in order to get them the right way from the very beginning I suggest that you read the link titled baying the bow initially. After you are ultimately all ready for the important acquisition, it is advisable to do at a archery coach and not in a ordinary sport gear shop. Archery has been a popular sport from the ancient times.

Evidences of popularity can be seen in our epics, which reflects the close traditional feel for Archery. This traditional sport needs superb concentration, sincere hard work and a sharp focus to hit the target.The person who shoots arrow is called archer. In order to win the game, an archer has to shoot arrows from a bow at the right target.

The closer the shoot to the center of the target, the more the score will be. In the end, all the individual scores are added up to announce the highest score. The person who scores the highest is announced as the winner of the game.

There are two types of archery is used in the game. One is Target archery and another is Field archery. In target archery, an archer has to shoot the target from various distances. However, in field archery, archers shoot different sized targets from unknown distances. A traditional bow is used in field archery.

Bows used in archery are made up of different materials including carbon and fiberglass. Attached with a sight and stabilizers, bows are usually kept steady to give a perfect shoot. Arrows have a sharp tip at the front and groove at the back to hold the bow string well. The targets are marked with colored papers.

The Sports of Archery in the Olymick Games

By Michael Russell Archery was not a sports event in the first ancient Olympic Games in Greece. However, the games were held for over 1,000 years, so it's entirely possible that at some time archery was an Olympic sport in the past.Archery for men was an event for the first time in the modern Olympics in 1900.

The first archery event for women was in 1904. However, there was no uniformity in the rules in those early Olympics and archery was dropped as an event after 1920. The international governing body for archery, the Federation Internationale de Tira l'Arc (FITA), was founded in 1931. It took many years before all countries accepted the new international rules for competition, but archery was able to return as an Olympic sport to the 1972 Munich Games. In 1988, team competitions were held in addition to the individual events.Since 1992, the event format is head-to-head competition for the top 64 athletes. There are four archery events: Men's Individual, Women's Individual, Men's Team and Women's Team.Individual competitors (men and women) shoot 72 arrows at a 'bulls-eye' target from a distance of 70 meters (229 feet, 8 inches). Each shot must be made within a 40-second time limit. A perfect score would be 720. A 'sudden death' overtime shot is made in the event of a tie.Team competitions consist of 16 3-archer teams. As in the individual events, each archer shoots 72 arrows are shot at a distance of 70 meters. In a tie score, each team member will shoot one arrow. The arrow closest to the center of the target determines the winner.The target has ten rings. One point is scored for an arrow landing in the outermost ring, 2 points for a hit in the next ring, continuing in this manner to the center ring which awards 10 points.The recurve bow is used by Olympic Archers. An arrow shot by this bow travels at more than 150 mph. The bows are very 'high-tech', manufactured from wood, fiberglass and graphite. They have stabilizers which help keep the arrow flights straight and sights to help in aiming. The strings are made from a hydrocarbon product or from Kevlar. The arrows are aluminum or carbon graphite. The cost of this gear is over $1,000.An Olympic archer has normally been training for at least ten years. It's essential to develop perfect form (or as close to perfect as humanly possible). A good coach is also very important. The proper equipment, of course, is needed. Fortunately, archery is much less expensive to pursue than many other sports. Read, study, talk to other archers. Attend and compete in local and national tournaments. Most important, practice, practice, practice.Archery is a sport accessible to many disabled athletes. A New Zealand woman, Neroli Fairhall, was the first paraplegic to compete in the Olympic Games. Two New World Records for Jamie Van Natta!

On 21 September 2007 the American Compound archer Jamie Van Natta set two new World Records at the MSU Fall Classic in East Lansing, Michigan which is the home of Michigan State University.

Van Natta firstly broke the current 50-metre record with 354 points. In addition, shooting a total of 1412 points in the 144-arrow FITA Round, she got back the record that the Belgian Gladys Willems took from her in May with 1411.

These two new records are Van Natta’s 6th and 7th World Records just in 2007 (four in individual and three in team). Congratulations to her for these new great achievements!

Psycho Cybernetics in Archery Accuracy Achievement

Every great archer knows that archery is a sport of technique, skill and mental agility. The archer imagines the arrow hitting the bulls eye before he releases the powerful weapon. If you are new to archery may I suggest a relevant book to read first; "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz a reknown expert on the subject of the powers of the mind?

Of course this is not to say that you can become an excellent master of archery without practice, as that is a misnomer completely. It takes practice, talent, knowledge of the sport as well as honed mental in the zone?displacement. Archery is a challenging sport to master and it is extremely competitive. Those who cannot combine all these characteristics cannot compete at the top levels.

In one chapter Maxwell Maltz discusses the reality of the mind and sports, where a basketball player sits in a chair all day and imagines himself swishing the basket from the free-throw line. Sure enough the players can improve their free-throw percentages faster and gain better accuracy by doing this, than actually shooting free-throws all day, where some hit and some miss.

This is something everyone should do in sports and I have often in Track and Field visited the track and walked the track, become one with the track imagining the victory in advance over and over again. Then when the track meet came, run my personal best time ever and won the race. How is this possible?

I strongly suggest that you read Psycho-Cybernetics?by Maltz and find out how it can improve your archery game. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. At the initiative of the FITA President, Dr Ugur Erdener, a programme was designed in order to enhance Archery within the Russian speaking countries. The project targets three major development activities, namely Coaching, Judging and the Athletes themselves. A Judging seminar in April 2007 was followed by a Coaching seminar in May (both in Antalya, Turkey), and this week it is a Youth Training Camp that is being held in Ankara.

Due to the strong tradition of these countries within the elite sport including Archery, FITA decided to give a boost to the region by having a programme that will keep these members of FITA involved in the international arena. Since the collapsing of the former Soviet Union, many of these countries have been facing major difficulties in being competitive in archery.

The overall project is structured in three main activities targeting the major aspects of Archery’s development:

Ø Athletes (especially the youth)
Ø Coaching
Ø Judging

The main objective is to help these countries to raise their standard and competition level, especially to enable them to compete with the elite at the Continental and World level in view of their participation in the Olympic Games.

In order to meet the objective more than 15 countries were surveyed by two Russian speaking coaches. The program was designed with a short and long term view towards the 2008 and 2012 Olympics Games. FITA has been giving assistance to both entry and elite level. Further assistance over the following years is expected (if possible until 2012) pending yearly report from the countries.

The participants at the Judging Seminar in Antalya
A Judging seminar was held in Antalya, Turkey on 12–15 April 2007. Twenty-three national judge candidates from 13 countries attended the seminar. Mr Victor Stanescu was the lecturer and Mr Zorigto Mankhanov made the translations and the technical explanations in Russian. Both are FITA International Judges.

Following the Judging seminar, a Coaching seminar took place from 20-27 May in Antalya with 23 attendees from 8 countries. At the end of the course a level 1 archery equipment kit (12 bows, 144 arrows, many small items for shooting, repairing, etc.) was offered to each participating country as long as they complied with the FITA donation criteria. The experts for this course were Mr Mario Codispoti, Mr Andre Korlaar, Mr Zorigto Mankhanov, Mr Juan Carlos Holgado and Mr Pascal Colmaire.

To conclude this programme, a Youth Training Camp has just started this week in Ankara, Turkey (17-24 September 2007) with a total of 25 participants from 10 countries. The experts on site for the training camp are Mr Andre Korlaar, Mr Vladimir Esheev and Aliaksandr Svedziantsou.

Jamshedpur: Archery Association Of India, in collaboration with HOYT and Easton Co, USA and Tata Steel, will be holding a five-day Compound Coaching Seminar At J R D Tata Sports Complex here from September 25.
John Dudley, world field compound champion of USA, will conduct the seminar, which is aimed at creating awareness about compound archery in the South Asia Federation (SAF) and Asian countries for the Junior and Cadet World Archery Championship to be held in October in 2008 as well as the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010, Bimlendra Jha, Vice President of the Association said here today.
Jha said the seminar would be first of its kind in compound division in the country. Bhutan, Bangladesh and Singapore have already confirmed their participation in the seminar whereas final intimation from Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal and Sri Lanka is being awaited.

Columbus, Ohio -- Approximately 300,000 bowhunters, representing more than half of all Ohioans who hunt deer, are expected to participate in the statewide archery deer hunting season that opens September 29, according to experts with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
During last year's four-month archery season, bowhunters killed 67,912 deer, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year. Crossbow hunters took 38,489 of that number and longbow hunters took a record 29,423 deer. Overall, archers accounted for nearly 29 percent of 237,316 deer taken during Ohio's combined 2006-07 archery, muzzleloader and gun seasons.
Licking County led the state in both the vertical bow and crossbow harvest. Coshocton, Holmes, Tuscarawas and Guernsey rounded out the top five counties in crossbow harvest, while Coshocton, Knox, Muskingum and Holmes completed the list of top five counties in vertical bow harvest.
This year, hunters who purchase an Ohio hunting license and $24 deer permit will be eligible to buy the new $15 antlerless deer permit, which replaces the urban deer permit and is valid September 29 through November 25.
"The intent of the reduced price antlerless deer permit is to focus additional pressure on the antlerless segment of the population. Expanding antlerless hunting opportunities not only aids in herd management, but has the added benefit of improving the buck age structure by reducing pressure on the antlered segment of the population," said Mike Tonkovich, deer biologist for the Division of Wildlife.
"By limiting the use of the antlerless deer permit to the first two months of the season, the division can safely evaluate it as a management tool, while encouraging hunters to commit to harvesting an antlerless deer early," said Tonkovich.
After November 25, archery hunters must use a deer permit for antlerless deer. Under the new regulation, hunters can take one additional antlerless deer in Zone A, up to two additional in Zone B, and up to three additional in Zone C. Details on this new opportunity for archery hunters can be reviewed on the division's Web site at http://wildohio.com/and click on the "Frequently Asked Questions" link.
The antlerless deer permits will also be valid for Division of Wildlife controlled deer hunts and for hunting deer in an urban unit.
This year's statewide archery season remains open from September 29 through February 3, including the week of deer-gun season November 26 through December 2. Deer-gun hunters will also be able to enjoy an additional weekend of hunting December 15 and 16. Archers may hunt one half-hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, except during the statewide gun, youth and muzzleloader seasons when they are one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. Archers hunting during the statewide gun, youth or muzzleloader seasons must meet the hunter orange requirements of those seasons.
To hunt deer in Ohio, hunters must possess a deer permit in addition to a valid hunting license. State law allows hunters to take only one antlered buck per year, regardless the type of deer season, deer permit or weapon used for deer hunting.

Archery Becomes a Fashion in China

XI'AN, China, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- In the men's compound competition of the 2007 Asian Archery Championships here on Monday, Cai Shuo did his best to take the fourth place.

A student from the Capital Sports Institute, Cai is one of about 15,000 modern Chinese who fell in love with the fashionable sport of archery.

"Chinese compound archers are very different from their peers who practice recurve," said Wang Jizhong, team leader of the Chinese compound archery team.

"Because compound archery is not an Olympic event, the archers are economically independent," he added. "They spend their own money for training."

In China, if you practice an Olympic sport and are selected to national or provincial teams, you do not have to worry about money and facilities for training. However, most of non-Olympic players in China do not enjoy as much support, especially economically, from the government.

"Our players all have their own work to do and they practice archery in spare time at local clubs. We only gather when there are major international competitions," said Wang, who runs his own archery club in Beijing.

"We've got about 1,200 regular members in our club and there are no less than 15,000 people who play in archery clubs all over the country."

Wang, formerly a government official, was the first one to set up an archery club in China. Then it spread to other cities including Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Sichuan.

"More and more people have become interested in the sport," Wang said. "It has become kind of fashion that enjoy particular popularity among the white-collar."

It is also an affordable sport to ordinary people. You only have to spend 30 to 40 RMB (about four to six US dollars) per hourto have fun in an archery club in China.

However, if you want to play with your own bows and arrows, it will be much more expensive. A decent compound bow costs about 10,000 RMB (about 1,300 U.S. dollars).

"At present, most of the bows are imported from the United States and South Korea," Wang said. "We are trying to have bows made in China in order to make them cheaper and more affordable."

Wang expected a great future of the sport in China, especially the compound archery.

A friend of mine loaned me a video that included a segment on the shooting ability
of a well-known figure in traditional archery. As I was watching the video, I quickly
became impressed with this person’s consistent shooting. His accuracy was
excellent from short range and his release was lightning fast. I imagined him to be a
very good bowhunter. His shooting style, however, was quite unusual.

Before drawing his bow, he would pause in a “pre aim” position as he focused on his
target. When he was ready, he would draw very quickly and release with virtually no
pause about 2-3 inches before reaching full draw. He shot the exact same way time
after time with similar results. He had taught himself an unorthodox, yet consistent
method of shooting a bow.

Watching him shoot begs the question: How and why did he come up with such a
strange way of shooting his bow? To me it looked like he was compensating for a
bad case of target panic. Three of the several common symptoms of target panic
include an inability to hold, snap shooting, and a short draw. Clearly, he had all
three, but how was he able to shoot with accuracy? The difference between him and
most people—including myself when I struggled with target panic—is that he is able
to shoot the same way each time, which is rare in someone with target panic.

Most people with target panic have a continuing deterioration of their shooting
form. You may get a handle on it for a while, but it’s very difficult to be consistent if
you are suffering from target panic. When I had target panic, I was constantly
fighting my form. My symptoms of target panic were varied and my shooting was
inconsistent from shot to shot. When you’re inconsistent in your shooting form, the
computer in your brain can’t make the necessary adjustments between shots to
become very accurate.

So what causes target panic? Archery is a repetitive sport. You do the same thing
over and over again. It is also an immediate results sport. You know right away
whether you made a good shot or poor one. The repetitive nature of archery—
bringing your bow hand on target and releasing the arrow—teaches you on a
subconscious level to release sooner and sooner. Your expectation of the results of
each shot adds pressure. This pressure intensifies when shooting in front of others
or in hunting situations. The combination of repetition and a concern with results
causes target panic.

Repetition seems to be an unlikely cause. It’s logical to think that if you did the
same thing over and over again in a given sport you would get better. In most cases
this is probably true, but with traditional archery this is not the case. In Part III of
this series on target panic, I will go into greater detail how repetition causes target
panic and offer a hint at a possible solution. For more information about target

Neroli Fairhall's athletic career appeared to be finished when she was paralysed from the waist down following a motorbike accident. Undeterred, she took up archery, competing while seated in a wheelchair. In 1984 she earned the right to represent New Zealand at the Los Angeles Games. She finished 35th and gained a place in the record books by becoming the first paraplegic athlete to compete in the Olympics. When asked if she had an advantage shooting from a seated position, she once replied, "I don't know. I've never shot standing up."

Türkçedeki okumak fiili ok kelimesinden gelir; şu bildiğimiz, yayla atılan ok'tan... Ok'la okumak arasında mutlaka anlamlı bir ilişki vardır. Büyük Selçuklular, mektupların başına hâkimiyet alâmeti olarak ok-yay işareti koyarlardı; tuğra belki de bu damgadan doğmuştur.
Okumak fiilinin aynı zamanda, çağırmak, davet etmek anlamı taşıdığını galiba artık sadece dilbilimciler biliyor. Hâlbuki benim çocukluğumda kapı kapı dolaşıp konu komşuyu düğüne çağıran kadınlara okuyucu denirdi. Göktürk alfabesinde de ok şeklindeki harf, "ok" sesi verir.

Bu bölümde Okmeydanı'nın tarihçesini ve nasıl acımasızca yok edildiğini de öğreniyoruz. Şinasi Acar, ayrıca Okmeydanı'nda ve Okmeydanı dışında günümüze ulaşabilen nişan taşları hakkında da bilgi vererek kitabelerinin çeviriyazılarını kaydediyor.

Bazı semtlere Nişantaşı, Dikilitaş gibi isimlerin verilmesine yol açan bu taşların her birinin aynı zamanda birer sanat şaheseri olduğunu özellikle kaydetmek gerekir. Kasımpaşa-Hasköy kıyı şeridinin kuzeydoğusundaki sırtlarda yer alan Okmeydanı, Fatih'in yadigârı harika bir spor alanıydı ve mâhir okçuların rekorlarını gösteren nişan taşlarıyla bezeliydi. Bir vakıf arazisi olmasına rağmen Vakıflar tarafından göz yumulunca gecekonducular tarafından istila edilip mahvedilen bu meydan, Şinasi Acar'ın ifadesiyle, "eğer korunabilseydi, dünyada eşi olmayan 550 yıllık bir Açıkhava Müzesi olarak uluslararası uzun mesafe okçuluk yarışmalarının yapıldığı bir merkez haline getirilebilirdi".
Unutmadan: Türk hat sanatının kurucusu sayılan Şeyh Hamdullah, büyük bir okçu (kemankeş) ve Okmeydanı'nın ilk şeyhlerinden biriydi. Son büyük hattatlardan Hezarfen Necmeddin Okyay ise Okmeydanı'nın yok olmaması için büyük bir mücadele verdi, ama başaramadı.

The Race to the Beijing Olympics!
Leipzig – 12 July 2007

On Friday afternoon, the team events for the Recurve division will take place. This team event offers 24 places for men and 24 places for women. Additionally, 16 places for men and women will be attributed based on today’s individual results. Let’s see who will qualify for the Olympic Games.

Let’s first recap the rules of the Olympic qualifications:

Ø The eight highest ranked teams for both Recurve Men and Women (excluding China) will qualify for three individual places per team—a total of 24 places.
Ø The 16 top ranked individuals, from countries (Member Associations) other than those mentioned above, qualify for a place (total 16).
Ø All places are attributed to NOCs and not to individuals. There will be subsequent qualifiers early in 2008 to increase the number of archers to 64 men and 64 women. The host nation, China, automatically qualifies three places per gender for Beijing.
Let’s now run a simulation based on the individual results of today and assuming that the top teams in qualifications will win on Friday. Since China is in the top eight teams, we will also consider that a ninth team qualifies. Of course, this is only a simulation. Everything thing can change on Friday when the archers shoot the team matches!

Recurve Men

Going into the matches, the top nine teams are Korea, Great Britain, Italy, Chinese Taipei, PR China, Australia, Japan, Mexico and Canada. All of these countries would secure three places. It is worth nothing that, the Athens Olympic bronze medallist, Ukraine, is not in this list.

According to the individual results today, two archers from Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia and USA would qualify. One archer each from Sweden, Denmark and Iran are certain to qualify because they finished in the top 16. Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey, Romania and Belarus would also qualify.

Let’s take some scenarios for tomorrow:

Ø If the heavily favoured Korea is upset in the first round, three archers would still qualify based on the individual results. However archers from Turkey, Romania and Belarus would then no longer as individuals.

Ø If countries like Great Britain, Japan, Australia, Canada loses in the first round, two archers would still qualify but the list of individual qualified archers would change a lot.

Ø If countries like Italy or Chinese Taipei (silver medallist at the Olympic Games 2004) lose in the first round, no archers would qualify!

In the event of a tie in a team match, there is a 3 arrow tie-break. The ninth team in the ranking will be the one that has the highest score of the first round losing teams.

Recurve Women
The top nine teams of the qualifications are Korea, P.R. China, Poland, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Chinese Taipei, Japan and France. All these countries would secure three places.

According to the individual results today, Ukraine is sure to qualify for two places. Countries like Georgia, DPR Korea, Netherlands and India would qualify for two places each. Countries like the USA, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Denmark, Greece and Venezuela could qualify one archer each.

Let’s take some scenarios for tomorrow:

Ø If Korea and Poland are upset in the first round three archers would still qualify based on the individual results. France has the same chance if Korea and Poland don’t lose in the first round. However, if this is the case, archers from Venezuela, India, Greece and Denmark would no longer qualify.

Ø If countries like Russia, Italy or Japan lose in the first round two archers would probably still qualify.

Ø If countries like Chinese Taipei or Great Britain lose in the first round at least one archer would still qualify.

Tin the event of a tie in a team match, there is a 3- arrow tie-break. The ninth team in the ranking will be the one that has highest score of the first round qualifying teams.

Whatever the case may be, the best way to secure three Olympic places is to win the first round on Friday afternoon.

Archery at Lord's: China v India v Great Britain, Monday 6th August

An international archery tournament is to be staged this summer at Lord's - the venue for the archery competition in the London 2012 Olympic Games - for the first time in the ground's 220 year history.
In another historic first, the contestants at Lord's will include teams from China.
This triangular tournament will take place on the morning of Monday 6th August and involve world-class men's and women's sides from Great Britain and India, as well as China.
Devised and organised by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS), the competition will take place after the completion, the previous day, of the Meteksan Archery World Cup in Dover. As a result, the archers from the three nations competing at Lord's - which have a combined population of 2.4 billion - will be some of the world's best.
Announcing the tournament, MCC's Secretary & Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw said: "I'm delighted that we will be staging this genuinely historic sporting contest. It will be particularly exciting to welcome Chinese competitors to Lord's for the first time."
He continued: "It's all part of our policy of increasing public interest in archery in the approach to 2012. We're also committed to giving British archers every opportunity to train and compete at Lord's in the run-up to the London Olympics, to provide them with the best possible chance of going for gold in the Games themselves."
GNAS's Alf Davies said: "Working together, MCC and GNAS have been developing this idea for many months. I'm delighted that we've now got the go-ahead from each of the three competing nations."
He added: "I am sure it will be a great thrill for each of the archers to take part in the first-ever archery contest at Lord's - one of the world's greatest sporting stages. It will also give them invaluable experience of competing at a ground which will host the Olympic archery competition in five years' time. Everyone at GNAS is looking forward to history, and new friends, being made at Lord's on Monday 6th August."
There will be free ground admission for this historic event, which has been warmly welcomed by both London 2012 and archery's international governing body - FITA.

Who will go to the Beijing Olympics?

One of the highlights of the 44th Outdoor Archery World Championships in Leipzig will be the qualifications for the Olympic Games. We have run a simulation based on the last World Cup event in Antalya.

A total of 40 places for Recurve Men and 40 places for Recurve Women at the Beijing Olympic Games will be determined in Leipzig. They will be allocated according to the following criteria:

* The eight higher ranked teams for both Recurve Men and Women (excluding China) will qualify three individual places—a total of 24 each.

* The 16 top ranked individuals, from other countries (NOCs) than mentioned above, qualify one place (total 16).

All places are attributed to NOCs and not to individuals. There will be subsequent qualifiers early in 2008 to increase the number of archers to 64 men and 64 women. The host nation, China, automatically qualifies three places per gender for the individual and team competitions.

The recent Antalya World Cup was the biggest ever with 330 archers. It was also one of the last tests before the World Championships in Leipzig and most of the top archers and top teams were there. Therefore, we have good data for analysis. However, a few good countries were missing in Antalya and there are more than 550 archers participating in the World Championships in Leipzig. There was a maximum of four participants per category in Antalya, and there will be only three in Leipzig. Thus, below is only a simulation about the qualifications to the Olympic Games and these are neither facts nor predictions.

Recurve Men
The most important way for a country to earn places for the Olympic Games is to be in top 8 or 9 teams at the World Championships (depending on if China is on the top 8).

In Antalya, the top 9 teams were Russia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, China, Italy, Korea, India and USA.

If we compare this to the last Olympic Games in Athens, Japan, France, Sweden, Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Australia would be missing. However, the last two, Chinese Taipei and Australia did not compete in Antalya. Malaysia would be a new-comer. Other contenders like Great Britain, Germany, Belarus or Turkey would also miss the Games.

Of course, these teams could still make it by qualifying three individuals, either in Leipzig or during the remaining qualifying event in 2008.

For instance, based on Antalya, the simulation shows that Mexico, Japan, Turkey, Germany and Great Britain would qualify two individuals. Countries like Poland, France, Bulgaria, Norway, Slovenia and Denmark would qualify one individual.

The bottom line is that these countries will have had to work hard since Antalya in order to steal the spots of the others.

Recurve Women
Looking at the results of Antalya, the top 8 countries were Korea, Italy, China, France, Russia, Turkey, Poland and Georgia. Great Britain and Mexico were tied for 9th place!

If we compare this to the Athens Games, a lot of countries would be missing: Germany, Greece, Ukraine, India, USA, Japan, Australia and Chinese Taipei (these last two didn’t compete in Antalya). The surprising new-comer would be Georgia.

The USA would actually be a lucky loser, because three archers would have qualified individually and the USA would be allowed to field a team in Beijing. Germany, Ukraine and Japan would qualify two individuals. Belarus, Colombia, India, Malaysia, Moldova and Netherlands would earn one berth.

All may be different in Leipzig but some countries will definitely enter the World Championships with a bit more confidence based on their recent results on the World Cup stages.

In Leipzig, only the top 16 teams of the qualifications will be allowed to compete in match play and therefore have a chance to reach the top 8 or 9 ranks. In other words, the race to Beijing starts Sunday!

Olympic Competition Format
There are 4 events in the Archery competition in the Olympic Games:

Ø Men’s and Women’s Individual events with the Recurve Bow
Ø Men’s and Women’s Team event with the Recurve Bow

There are separate team and individual competitions. The archery competition is organised in the following rounds: FITA 70m Round and the Olympic Round consisting of the Team Elimination Round, Team Finals Round, the Individual Elimination Round and Individual Finals Round for Women and for Men.

The FITA 70m Round is used to rank the individual archers and to qualify the teams (max 16 qualify). The Olympic Round allows 64 participants for the women’s competition and 64 participants for the men’s competition (qualified at FITA World Championships and other Qualifying Tournaments).

There will be a minimum of 9 teams for the men and the women (8 that qualified at the World Championships, the home country), plus any country that qualifies 3 archers of the same gender for the Olympic Games.

Each elimination and final round consists of a head-to-head match from which the winner advances to the next round. The matches for individual and team elimination rounds are drawn by a match-play table, which is based on the ranking of the FITA 70m Round.

The individual competition consists of elimination rounds (1/32nd, 1/16th, 1/8th) and finals round (quarterfinals, semifinals, finals for bronze medal and gold medal).

The team competition consists of elimination rounds (1/8th, 1/4th) and finals round (semifinals, finals for bronze medal and gold medal). Teams consist of 3 athletes of the same gender and country.

Differences between the FITA World Championships and Olympic Games
The main difference is that the number of participants in FITA World Championships is higher. Therefore a qualifying round is shot in order to determine who enters the elimination round. During FITA World Championships archers shoot the FITA Round which is shot at 4 distances (90m, 70m, 50m and 30m for Men and 70m, 60m, 50m and 30m for Women). During the Olympic Games the only shooting distance is 70m.

There are World Championships in many Archery disciplines which are as follows: Outdoor Target Archery, Indoor Target Archery, Field Archery and Ski-Archery.

Changes since the Athens 2004 Olympic Games
The format and scheduling of the competition in Beijing is slightly changed from Athens. During the 1/32nd and 1/16th elimination rounds the archers that win the 1/32nd will shoot subsequently the 1/16th elimination. They will shoot in groups based on the place obtained in the ranking round. Two separate fields of plays will be used in order to allow for better TV coverage of both parallel matches.

The number of arrows has been changed from 18 to 12 throughout the individual elimination rounds and the number of arrows for teams has been changed from 27 to 24 in 4 ends of 6 arrows.

Sport Rules and Procedures
In individual competition, archers shoot 4 ends of 3 arrows in the elimination and final rounds, in alternate shooting with 30 seconds per arrow.

In the team event, the team shoots 4 ends of 6 arrows (2 arrows per team member) in all rounds. The time-limit is 2 minutes per team per end.

The target face is divided into 10 concentric rings each awarded a score between one and ten, with the innermost ring worth 10 points. The highest score wins the match.

After every end, the trailing archer or team shoots first.

Tie-Break Rules
Tie-break for individuals:
A single arrow will be shot by each archer and the archer with the highest scoring arrow will win. If tied after one arrow, a second tie-breaking arrow will be shot for score. If tied after 2 arrows are shot, a third tie breaking arrow will be shot and the archer with the third arrow closest to the centre will win.

Tie-break for teams:
A single arrow will be shot by each team member. After the first 3 tie breaking arrows are shot, the team with the highest score will win. If still tied, another 3-arrow end will be shot for score. If still tied, a 3rd end of 3 arrows will be shot for score. If tied, the team with the single closest-to-the-centre arrow will win. If tied, the second (or 3rd) arrow closest-to-the-centre will determine the winner. If tied, subsequent 3 arrow ends will be shot until the tie is broken.

The process for ranking the losers with the same score (in the same round) is as follows: the archers are co-ranked at the same position and the subsequent place will take into consideration the number of tied archers.

Penalties / Disqualification Rules
There is set of penalties for infractions; the most common ones are:
Ø loss of the value of any arrow shot after the allocated time
Ø return behind the waiting line in case of incorrect relay in the team event

Protests / Appeals
With the exception of the value of a judged arrow, a participant can appeal against any unfair issue.

The Final Day of the Meteksan Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya, Turkey .

The new star from Russia, Erdyniyeva!

The final day of the Meteksan Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya, Turkey, gave many exciting final matches. The new Russian star Erdyniyeva won Recurve Women and clinched a place in the World Cup Final later this year. The experienced Kazantseva (RUS) did exactly the same in Compound Women. Brasseur (FRA) and the new comer Kim Yeon Chul (KOR) are the other winners. All matches were broadcast LIVE on TRT and the Polish national channel!

Compound Women – Bronze

The first match of the afternoon was between Anastasia Anastasio (ITA) and Gladys Willems (BEL). The latter opened the match with 8-10-9, while Anastasio started with a triple 9. The match was tied at 27. Willems continued with a perfect 10-10-10 end to take a big advantage over her opponent who shot a 6 (57-49). It was a tough experience for the young Italian archer to play at such a level. She held it well, though, with a triple 9 in the third end. However, Willems showed why she holds the World Record (1411) for the FITA Round: another 10-9-9 end for her and a lead of 8 points (84-76). No problem for Willems then to clinch the match and win bronze with a comfortable margin: 112-102.

Compound Men – Bronze

Thomas Hasenfuss (GER) and Roberval Dos Santos (BRA) were then facing each other for the Compound Men bronze medal. This was the first appearance of Hasenfuss in a World Cup final. The score of this match was tied after the first end, both archers shooting two 9s and a 10 for a temporary total of 28. The level raised high in the second end with a perfect three arrow series and a two point lead for the Brazilian (58-56). What a match and come-back by Hasenfuss with a perfect end to tie the match at 86! The two archers were tied with one arrow to go (105-105). Both archers shot a 9 at this moment, which led them to a shoot-off! Roberval, with a low arrow, scored only 8 and left the door open to Hasenfuss who took victory with a 10!

Recurve Women – Bronze

Lee Sung Jin (KOR) versus Natalia Valeeva (ITA) for the bronze medal in Recurve Women. The Italian took the line first and opened the match with 29 out of a possible 30. It was Lee’s turn to shoot first for the second end, since she was trailing behind by one point at that time. She scored a triple 9, while Valeeva scored a 7 with her fourth arrow but went on with two perfect shots to keep her lead (56-55). The Italian even doubled her advantage in the third end: 84-82. The two archers proved very close to one another, as they were ranked 4th and 6th in the qualifications. However, with a low 8-10-8 series, Valeeva let Lee come back and tie the match after the twelve regular arrows of the match. Shoot-off again… Valeeva with another poor 8 and Lee took victory with a 10.

Recurve Men – Bronze

The last bronze medal match saw Xue Hai Feng (CHN) face Juan Rene Serrano (MEX). The Mexican was shooting first on target 2 and opened with 28 points. Xue immediately put pressure on him by scoring a perfect 30 with his first three arrows. Serrano went on with a triple 9 and a total of 55. At that moment Xue seemed to lose a bit of concentration: after four consecutive 10s, he shot 8 and 7. The score was then tied! Serrano could keep consistency with a 28-point end, while Xue scored 8-9-10, leaving the lead to his opponent by one point (83-82). The Chinese archer totally got out of his depth with another 7 at his eleventh arrow… Serrano finished his match with a perfect 10 and took the Recurve Men bronze (110-107).

Compound Women – Gold

The gold medal matches started with Anna Kazantseva (RUS) and Jahna Davis (USA) in Compound Women. The American archer, shooting on target no. 2, started with a low end of 25, possibly due to the wind, as it seemed to be a bit tricky today! Kazantseva took advantage of Davis’ bad start to take the lead immediately with 27. She even increased her advantage to three points at the halfway stage (54-51). Davis went on with a 10-10-8 series, while Kazantseva shot the same end but the other way around (8-10-10). At a result, the American kept trailing behind by three. With a perfect last end, the Russian clinched the match to win another World Cup stage (112-108), and has earned herself a place in the World Cup Final!

Compound Men – Gold

Another American was in the compound finals today: Braden Gellenthien (USA) who had to deal with the French Sebastien Brasseur for the gold in the men’s category. This match began with the American, as well, but at target 1 this time. He started weel with a double 10 and a 9. Brasseur tied this 29 score after the first end with (10-9-10). Same second series for the two archers with 29 additional points each (58-58). It was then Gellenthien who broke the tie first, shooting one point higher than his opponent with three arrows to go (87-86). However, the French showed great tenacity and managed a perfect score of 30 in the last end. This allowed him to clinch the match by one point (116-115) after the American shot 9-9-10.

Recurve Women – Gold

After the great Compound Men final, it was no. 1 seed Choi Eun Young (KOR) who faced Natalya Erdyniyeva (RUS) in the Recurve Women category. The Korean started with 7-9-9 for 25 points, while her opponent from Eastern Europe scored 28 with her first three arrows. Choi was trailing by two (54-52) in the middle of the match. Choi seemed she could recover, when she started the second half with a double 10. Unfortunately, she went on with an 8 and Erdyniyeva could keep her advantage (82-80). Both archers finished with a triple 9 and the new rising star of the Russian Federation won the gold (109-107)! She clinched a definitive spot in the World Cup Final!

Recurve Men – Gold

A 100% Korean match and new faces for the last final of the World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya between team-mates Im Ji Wan and Kim Yeon Chul (KOR)! This was the first significant international appearance for both archers. The two archers were tied after the first end at 28 points. Kim took the lead half-way on the score of 56-55. He then doubled his advantage with three arrows to go, leading 85-83. Im closed the session with a good 9-10-9 end, but this was not enough to come back. Victory went to Kim on the final score of 113-111. In this category, Tsyrempilov (RUS) qualified for the World Cup Final when he reached the quarter-final here on Thursday.Stage 3 of the Meteksan Archery World Cup 2007 is now over! The final stage will be held in Dover from 31 July to 5 August, and many places still remain undecided for the World Cup Final in Dubai on 24 November (maximum four spots per category). This bodes well for another exciting archery competition!

1) How do I qualify for the Olympics?
Ø Being a good archer would be an excellent start.
Ø Then to be member of a Member Association of FITA of which you have the Nationality. (the case of nationality changes is addressed in another question)
Ø Your Member Association has to send you or some of your team mates to one of the qualification tournaments (World Championships 2007, Continental Qualifying Tournaments 2007 2008 or the Final Qualification tournament) to obtain a Quota place for your NOC.
Ø You have to shoot the minimum qualification standard in the qualification period which is for:
o Men: FITA round 1200 or 70m round 600
o Women: FITA round 1180 or 70m round 590
Ø Based on the national selection system agreed by your Member Association and your National Olympic Committee to be proposed to be part of your National Olympic Team.

2) I have shot 1300 points and the minimum qualification standard is 1200. Can I compete at the Olympics?
It is not only a question of shooting a certain score. To participate in the Olympics your country must win a spot for the Olympic Archery event in your gender and you have to be selected by your country for using this spot. Shooting a high score or even winning the World Cup Final is not enough. There is a limitation of 3 archers per countries as is the case at the World Championships.

3) Who decides who can compete at the Olympics?
First of all there is the International Olympic Committee (IOC) deciding on which sports, disciplines and the number of athletes that can compete at the Olympics. The IOC on proposal of FITA decided on the Quota Allocation system. Archers can win quota places for their NOC in the following 5 ways:

Ø 2007 World Target Championship
o The 8 highest ranked NOCs in team competition qualify 3 individual places each (8 NOCs x 3 athletes = 24)
o The 16 top ranked individuals from other NOCs than mentioned above qualify 1 place (16 athletes)

Ø Continental Qualification Tournaments
o The first 3 athletes of Continental Qualification Tournaments in Europe, Asia and Americas qualify 1 place (with a maximum of 2 places per NOC).
o The first 2 athletes of the Continental Qualification Tournament in Africa and Oceania qualify 1 place (with a maximum of 2 places per NOC).

Ø Host nation
o The host nation automatically qualifies 3 places per gender for the individual and team competitions, provided it enters at least 3 athletes per gender at the 2007 World Target Championship
Ø Final World Qualification tournament
o A special qualification tournament will be held at the end of the qualification process. It will be open to all countries that do not have any quota places through the other qualifying tournaments (2007 WOTC and/or CQT). The first 5 athletes will be qualified within the maximum limit of 1 place per NOC and per gender.

Ø Tripartite Commission Invitations
o 3 Invitation places per gender will be allocated by the Tripartite Commission among the NOCs of the athletes who have achieved the Minimum Qualification Standard

ALL THESE PLACES ARE AWARDED TO THE NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE, NOT TO THE MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS OR THE ARCHERS. It is the National Olympic Committee upon proposal by the FITA Member Association who decides who can take these places or the NOC can refuse the places.

FITA also has a Minimum Qualification Standard. All Archers competing at the Olympic Games should have reached this level by the end of the qualification period at tournaments that are registered with FITA (list is on the website – all grades accepted).

4) Why are there only 64 archers competing in each category at the Olympics?
Concerning the Olympic Games the deciding body is not FITA but the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC has specified the number of athletes Archery may have at the Games and this in the perspective of the total number of athletes in the Games.

5) Why is there no Compound at the Olympics?

Furthermore there is a limitation on the number of events in the Olympic Games. FITA has asked several times for the Compound category to be included but with no success so far. Since only one type of competition is permitted per sport a Compound competition would not only have to be different from the Recurve competition but also have to compete with other sports such as rugby, karate, roller-skating as a new Olympic sport.

6) I have changed nationality or I am thinking of changing nationality. Can I compete at the Olympics?
Please note that all issues related to the changing of sporting nationality of competitors in the Olympic Games are governed by the Olympic Charter and in particular by Rule 42 thereof and its Bye-law, as reproduced below for reference.

Rule 42 of the Olympic Charter:

“1. Any competitor in the Olympic Games must be a national of the country of the NOC which is entering such competitor.

2. All disputes relating to the determination of the country which a competitor may represent in the Olympic Games shall be resolved by the IOC Executive Board.”

Bye-law to Rule 42 of the Olympic Charter:

“1. A competitor who is a national of two or more countries at the same time may represent either one of them, as he may elect. However, after having represented one country in the Olympic Games, in continental or regional games or in world or regional championships recognised by the relevant IF, he may not represent another country unless he meets the conditions set forth in paragraph 2 below that apply to persons who have changed their nationality or acquired a new nationality.

2. A competitor who has represented one country in the Olympic Games, in continental or regional games or in world or regional championships recognised by the relevant IF, and who has changed his nationality or acquired a new nationality, may participate in the Olympic Games to represent his new country provided that at least three years have passed since the competitor last represented his former country. This period may be reduced or even cancelled, with the agreement of the NOCs and IF concerned, by the IOC Executive Board, which takes into account the circumstances of each case.

3. If an associated State, province or overseas department, a country or colony acquires independence, if a country becomes incorporated within another country by reason of a change of border, if a country merges with another country, or if a new NOC is recognised by the IOC, a competitor may continue to represent the country to which he belongs or belonged. However, he may, if he prefers, elect to represent his country or be entered in the Olympic Games by his new NOC if one exists. This particular choice may be made only once.

4. Furthermore, in all cases in which a competitor would be eligible to participate in the Olympic Games, either by representing another country than his or by having the choice as to the country which such competitor intends to represent, the IOC Executive Board may take all decisions of a general or individual nature with regard to issues resulting from nationality, citizenship, domicile or residence of any competitor, including the duration of any waiting period.”

In addition, insofar the changing of sporting nationality provided in paragraph 2 of the Bye-law to Rule 42 is concerned (i.e. in the case where less than three years have passed since the competitor last represented his/her former country), this case must imperatively be submitted to the IOC Executive Board; in this respect, we ask the interested NOC to send us an official request for a change of sporting nationality, accompanied by the following documents:

- A photocopy of the competitor’s new passport;
- The date on which the competitor last competed for his/her former country;
- The agreement of the NOC for which the competitor last competed;
- The agreement of the International Federation concerned;
- The date on which the competitor began living in his/her new country on a permanent basis; and
- The fundamental reason(s) for which the competitor is requesting a change of sporting nationality.

These documents should be sent by the requesting NOC to the IOC NOC Relations Department, in charge of analyzing the file and submitting the case to the IOC Executive Board.

3D World Championships 2007 in Sorpon

Opening Ceremony and Qualification Rounds
Sopron – 7 June 2007

The Opening Ceremony of the 3D World Championships took place yesterday in the downtown of Sopron village. On Wednesday 6 June the teams paraded in front of the City Hall where they were introduced to the audience and authorities. The competition has started today 7 June with the qualification rounds for all categories.

The Deputy Mayor of Sopron welcomed the archers and wished them the best luck for the competition. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee (OC) and President of the Hungarian Archery Association, Mr. Sebastian Vanky, also directed some words to the participants expressing his happiness to have 19 countries participating in Sopron and being very proud to show a high level 3D event to all the Archery World. FITA Technical Delegate (TD) Juan Carlos Holgado officially opened the World Championships on behalf of the FITA President.

The competition started today with an excellent hot and sunny weather. All teams were ready to start at 8:00 in the morning. Two courses were to be used, with all archers doing both. Course A was a hard one, with many slopes, hills and up-down shots. Archers enjoyed it a lot, as the difficulty was high and many shots were just amazing.

Course B was more comfortable in walking, but not easier in shooting. Many tricky situations forced the archers to stay focussed on each shot. An archer mentioned at the end of the course that “I was missing an easy target; at least one to recover of some mistakes and at least feel that you are doing fine. All targets were very hard and high in difficulty”. Other positive comments were: “This is the best course I have ever done… excellent for a World Championship” and “the course designer did an excellent job”. Some others were quite funny: “In Hungary the –animals- in the course need to eat more… as they are small and far away”.

Time to completing the courses was terrific. While the OC had foreseen 4 to 4.5 hours for each course, archers just shot and enjoyed it so much that they completed the morning courses in 3.5 hours.

The afternoon session was planned to start at 3:00 pm, but a 20-min delay was caused by some archers who needed more time to arrive to their respective positions. Again the archers finalized the afternoon course in less than four hours, faster than expected.

Fair play and sportsmanship were showed today, when an Austrian archer faced an equipment failure in the middle of the competition and did not have a second bow with him. When he realized this, Lazos Spergel from Hungary lent his additional bow so that the Austrian could go on competing. This is one more proof of the excellent atmosphere that exists among competitors and organizers.

The competition session finished at 7:30 pm with the results posted on the boards. The team captains then provided the OC with the names for the team competition that will be held tomorrow morning (8 June). The afternoon session will be devoted to individual eliminations.

The FITA Office has produced, for the second time, an annual report—the feedback received on the first report was excellent. We hope that our Member Associations and other readers will find this document useful and we have taken some comments on board to make it even more useful.

This report permits FITA’s administration to give feedback on the most important activities from the last year. Upon reviewing 2006, it is clear that it has been a year of many new activities for FITA, as we have implemented a substantial part of the presidential program as presented to the Madrid Congress.

Number Ten : Good archers know when to coach, know when to train, and know when to shoot.We had an Olympic coach come give us a conference on archery coaching, and one of the things brought up was 'when you shoot, you shouldn't coach'. It's easy to coach and instruct, many of us do it unconsciously. However, when you're trying to do something well, especially at a high sporting level, you should really just focus on the doing. All you should be focusing on is on your form and your archery. Someone not doing something right? You shouldn't care about that. In other sports like martial arts, if you start having stray ideas, you run the risk of injury and pain. Just because this doesn't happen in archery doesn't mean you should be nonchalent about it. I think 'know when to ~' is a great piece of advice, especially in our relaxed culture. Ever seen how the Koreans march to their practice grounds? Ever seen how they don't talk when they practice? That's because they know when some things are appropriate. When you engage in archery, all you should do is shoot your arrows into the goal. Number Nine: Archery can be fun!!!Getting uptight? Want to do better? Sighing a lot? Did you just shoot a lousy shot? If you can't get over mistakes, the next arrow is going to be another one. If you can't adopt the right attitude when you're doing archery, how do you think you can be shooting at top form? Everyone else around you is totally positive. You think you can do it being negative? This is major advice to all Singaporeans doing archery: ease up and have a good time! Relaxing and 'getting over it' will help you prepare yourself for the next shot. Everyone does mistakes, professionals however, learn from them and try not to do it again. They do this by: regrouping, relaxing, NOT TRYING TOO HARD, and returning to their form. Number Eight: Achieve balance for proper follow through.My dad would always say to push using your bow arm. Push it directly towards the target. Push that shoulder down! What he means is that people usually forget that the bow arm needs to counter the pulling arm. Everyone is focusing on pulling the string back and forgetting that you need to have a similar tension on the other arm or the forces on your skeletal structure will not equate. Without the proper balance, when you release that shot, you jerk and you flinch. What you need to do is achieve balance by working both your pulling and pushing arms. Understand the forces at work on the fulcrum (your shoulders). Understand that without balance, additional forces will show themselves when you release that string. If you're doing it right, the bow falls toward the target and the drawing fingers slide across your neck EFFORTLESSLY. Don't hurry or hasten this process. Don't linger to achieve it either. It comes when everything falls in place and follows a natural rythm. Number Seven: Work on strong mental visualization.Bill Wee is big on this. And so you should too. All high level national athletes engage in mental visualization. No one who doesn't do it will be able to achieve that similar standard. I've written a one pager regarding visualization in respect to self defence, and the link is available off our links page. The summary of that is that visualization starts with the decision to do whatever it takes to reach your outcome. You then use tools to recreate a mental space for top performance. This helps to ground your performance to the form you have set out for yourself. Number Six: Know when to call it a day.Your bow is a high performance machine. You are not. It's better to know how to call it a day when you've had enough. When your muscles flag, when you're distractable, when you're grumpy or hungry. Stop shooting! Practice is only good if you're practicing with good form, and able to replicate the exact form again and again. Japanese Kyuodo practitioners sometimes only shoot a maximum of 2 arrows in a day. Why? I'll let you think about that. Number Five: Shoot and die. Don't shoot ... also die. :-)This is a martial arts philosophy, and is similar to the idea of 'burning your bridges'. When you're shooting, you should perform as though you were in a life and death situation. Not so much to increase your anxiety level but to engage yourself by fully committing the shot to the target. If you're really serious about archery, why shouldn't that seriousness translate to full dedication to each shot? 'Shoot and die' means to focus yourself at that moment at the exclusion of everything else. 'Don't shoot ... also die' means that if you don't do to your full ability, you might as well just give up now. Number Four: Focus on your own archery. Archery is about preparation. It is about helping you acheive what you need for best performance. Getting distracted will not help you. Caring for others will not help anyone. Is your equipment in order? Have you checked the straightness of all your arrows? Do you know exactly what is in your case? Any spares? Rain gear? Hat? Sunblock? You basically owe it to yourself to manage everything pertinent to YOUR archery. Not to do so is to be irresponsible. Number Three: Bring your archery training to your competition and your competition into your training.Your training should be set up so that you can perform well at competitions. Prepare for all competitive environments. Use visualization to help prepare you for the competitive arena. Use all your archery gear (even your spares). When you get to your competition, you should compete with the mindset you have trained for. I believe this 'normalizes' a person emotionally so that you can replicate technique under adverse situations. This is what a martial artist attempts to do: to use technique and knowledge to counter any adrenaline dump or pre-fight jitters. Archers should be aware of such anxiety and compartmentalize themselves to help ensure proper form and mindset are achieved. Number Two: Decide to win.That should be the only thing driving you. I read somewhere about how the shot is influenced by the stakes. Shoot for nothing, and you shoot properly. Introduce money into the game, and you're shooting for small change. Put a million dollars and then you're clamping your mind around that dollar figure. No. When you shoot, you should just shoot to win. You should decide that you can win! It doesn't matter if you have just been placed last and have lost. Your attitude must be a winning attitude. Like I mentioned before, all the other archers are dying to win. They want to be number one. If you don't have that hunger, what chance do you have? Don't aim for second place. Go for the top spot. Believe in yourself! Number One: There is no big secret to archery. There is no killer app.Don't obsess about any one thing. There is no one secret to a great archery: it is a combination of everything. Good equipment. Good training. Good coaching. Good mindset. Good conditions. Talk to good archers. You'll find they'll tell you different things. Why? Because what works for someone will not work for you. Even at age 71, Frank Gandy of Bartow still has gold in his eyes. Gandy set his second archery record of the 28th Annual Sunshine State Games on Sunday when he won the Master Senior Male Freestyle division (age 65+) with a total score of 870 for a 900 round. It was the best score for that division in the history of the games. Gandy also set a record Saturday with a score of 868 in the Executive Senior Male Freestyle category (age 70 plus). His scores were the fourth and fifth highest in a 900 round of the weekend.His totals won both divisions and earned him an ice cream from fellow archer and student Diane Watson of Hudson, who shot 865 on Sunday.Watson, 43, is the only professional female archer in the state of Florida and was the 2006 Florida Archery Association's Shooter of the Year.Watson is still impressed by Gandy, who taught her for a while."He's such a gentleman,'' she said of her mentor and friend. "Frank's just awesome. He's one of the best shooters in the state still at 71. He still shoots extremely well. Everyone is always trying to pick his brain and get coaching from him.''Gandy was unaware of the Sunshine State Game records.He has competed in the Sunshine State Games for dozens of years. Lately he's cut his shooting down because of his age, traveling to events closer to his Bartow home.With the hot weekend and temperatures in the low 90s at Mulberry Park, Gandy felt his age."I got tired,'' he said. "I'm wore out. At 71 the heat makes a difference. I had a good time and I'm still on the top side of the green grass.''Over his 50 years shooting, many with his wife Margaret by his side on the shooting line, he has won three Pro Archers Association national championships and two more from the now defunct NFA organization.He practices about four to five hours a week, which he claims is not early enough anymore."I just like to compete,'' he said. "It's such a personal challenge. The physical energy you have to have, but more importantly is the mental part - to focus and control your emotions. "I've enjoyed success and support from my wife and family. It's been a fun 50 years.''

1412 points for Norwegian Morten Boe
Lausanne - 4 June 2007

The compound archer Morten Boe shot 1412 points on a FITA Round at the Akkerhaugen Star Tournament in Norway on Sunday 3 June. This his only two points lower than the World Record held since 2001 by Roger Hoyle (USA).

Morten Boe's scores at the four distances (90m, 70m, 50m and 30m) were as follows: 344-356-352-360. His 356 points at 70 metres ties the current World Record held by another American Dave Cousins since May 2005.

We congratulate Morten for his great shooting!

Son yıllarda gittikçe artan makaralı yay sporcuları , kendilerini gün geçtikçe geliştiriyor.Makaralı(compound) yay sporcuları malzemelerini kendileri almaya başladı,devlet desteğinin yeterli olmaması çoğu sporcunun kendi yaylarını almalarına sebep oldu.Her yaşta sporcunun yapabildiği okçuluğun bu dalında son yıllarda milli takım seviyesinde puanlar dünya standardına yükseldi.Dünya şampiyonalarında boy gösteren makaralı yay okçularının yaş ortalaması 40 civarında iken makaralı yay milli takımında bulunan sporcuların yaş ortalaması 24 bile değil,bu da gösteriyor ki; bu gençler bir kaç yıl içinde Dünya'da ses getirmeye başlayacaklar.Sporcularımız desteklendiği takdirde hem bayanlarda hem erkeklerde Dünya çapındaki başarıları çok yakındır.
Son yapılan Antalya'daki uluslararası okçuluk turnuvasında üç yeni Türkiye rekoru kıran ve 1360 puanı geçen erkek makaralı yay milli takım sporcuları Dünya standardını yakaladı, bayanlarda 1330 puanın üstüne çıkıldı. Makaralı yay erkekler milli takım antrenörü Ayhan Uzuntaş ; genç ,dinamik,tecrübeli ve bilgili bir hoca , sporcularını iyi tanıyor ve onları gayet güzel çalıştırıp, iyi motive edebiliyor.

Do you know archery? Certainly everyone knows that archery is one of minor sports. Then I tell you what is this sport like.

Archery is hunting originally. From the 17th century downward, archery have turned from hunt into game in United Kingdom.
I think you see someone that shoot arrows at the target. Probably that is “target archery”.
Target Archery is a kind of archery to shoot arrows at the target on which points is written. There is points X(=10),10,9,,8,7….from center to outside on the target. The athletes shoot 36 arrows at each of the distances. Men shoot 90, 70, 50, 30 meters. And women shoot 70,60,50,30 meters. That is to say, in total, 144 arrows are shot. So the perfect score is 1440 points. The size of the target is 80cm face at the short distances (50m and 30m) and 122 cm face at the long distances (90m and 70m for men, 70m and 90m for women). At single round the world record is 1405 points. It is Park Sung Hyun`s record.
There is two kind of bow. One is called Recurve bow (RC). There is this kind of bow at Sports Park every time you see. It is only for the game. Another is Compound bow (CP). This bow is mainly used to hunt.
Basically bow is composed of limbs and riser, sight, stabilizer.
First, Riser is a most fundamental part. All parts are joined on it.
Second, Limbs is most important part. It gives arrows the power. And generally it is made of resin.
Third, Stabilizer can reduce the oscillation which arise when shoot arrows with bow.
Bow’s length (riser and limbs) is about 160cm. it’s about my height!
As there are not so many corporations which can produce tools of high quality, you can use these tools of the same quality as professional athletes use. It is a most interesting characteristic of archery.
By the way, how is the speed of the arrow that is shot by bow, do you know?
The answer is 240km/h !!
If you shoot arrows toward the frying pan, you can break it easily!

Finally, archery is funny and interesting sport! But it is still miner sport in Japan. So I wish you have interest in the miner sports
